Through various conversations I've recently had about curb appeal (and did you check out the recent ideabook on the topic?) I've thought about front doors. Literally the gateway into a home, the front is what onlookers see first from the curb, and the choice of door itself can set the tone for the entire house.
Which means that you can get doors very, very wrong (that "inspired" choice of electric blue isn't so inspiring after all), and very, very right, as in the following pictures.
When choosing a door, keep in mind how it expresses and finishes off the exterior, and beautifully segways your interior and exterior. Keep in mind materials. Don't forget that details matter (think hardware). And expressing yourself through your front door can be magnificent, but don't be too "out there." You can always hang a crazy wreath...

I was tongue-in-cheek about bright blue doors (which can, for the record, look terrible), but this door couldn't be a more charming finish to the front of this house--sticking to stark simplicity in the surrounding details.

For blue, a darker shade adds color in a more classic tone.

A simple entrance area made unique not only by the color, but particularly by the unique rounded shape, giving a softness to the geometrics going on here.
