Vignettes: Tips for Displaying the Things You Love
One of the most enjoyable and creative parts of decorating a home comes when adding the accessories to our rooms. Once you’ve decided on the best arrangement for the furniture, it’s time to play…time to make the room feel like home and a true reflection of you and your family.
When creating little vignettes or displays around your room, does that come naturally for you, or do you struggle finding just the right look? Do you like to buy new things or do you use only those treasures you’ve collected over the years during vacation and special trips? Or, perhaps you use a combination of new and collected?
Don’t be afraid to try something different. Why not put away some of those items you've had sitting in the same spot for a long time and replace them with treasures you've had tucked away in closets and drawers for many years. It’s a fun way to “redecorate” when the budget is tight or storage space is at a premium.

I adore this room for so many reasons. It exudes warmth and coziness...perfect for the crisp, fall days ahead. The decorative vignettes on the coffee table, mantel and side table complete the look.
There are many ways to display your collectibles, and one way is by grouping items that are similar...like beautiful vases or a rare collection.

One of the more popular items to use in tabletop displays are books. They are excellent for lifting objects to create different heights for the items you choose to use.

Have fun when creating lovely little vignettes. Pull out your beautiful collections. Do you collect old cameras or vintage clocks? Notice the wonderful old cameras featured here and how books are used to give height. The clock becomes a focal point contrasting against the dark color of the other items in the vignette.
If you'd like to display items under glass and don't have a cloche, consider using a glass cake platter. When creating vignettes, you can even go with a "theme." This vignette has a "nature" theme using moss, eggs, butterflies and a floral arrangement.
I love this display with the rich warmth of the wood letter-boxes and tea caddy, contrasting against the blue and white porcelain and the shiney brass lamp. Note how the wood items are grouped together, as are the porcelain pieces. Collections make much more of an impact grouped together than mixed all in with dissimilar pieces.

Vignettes don't have to be complex. Sometimes a room calls for simplicity. I love the clean, fresh look of this sweet display. Save your clear bottles for a lovely arrangement of flowers.

Here's a fun way to create a vignette. Find a pretty basket or container and tuck some pretties in...then place it wherever you desire. A moveable vignette...love this idea!

Height...it's an element you'll definitely want to take advantage of when displaying the things you love. Notice this display has been created using everyday items of varying heights.

Another lovely vignette created with books and objects of varying heights. The books make a wonderful pedestal for Mr. Bunny.

I love this charming vignette of green apples, yellow lemons and blue eggs, all displayed in colorful bowls atop a vintage quilt. Even everyday items like the food we eat can be used to create an eye-catching display.
And just when you thought all "vignettes" had to be tabletop displays...here's a wonderful grouping of old photographs displayed on the wall. It feels like a little vignette to me with the pretty pin and leaves.

When thinking of areas in your home where you might create little vignettes, the laundry room may not come to mind. With all the time we spend there, why not cozy it up a bit? This is so delightful...a little bit of fun and beauty where you least expect it.

This display would be fun to change out for the seasons. Today it's sporting a summer look. What would you tuck inside for fall/winter? What a fun way to use an old vintage crate in a wonderful vignette. It adds just the height you need for this display.

| Here's a larger view of the vignette above. Now we can see that it actually stretches across a mantle and includes an even taller piece...the map. I like the repeat of the candles...ties everything together beautifully.
