As one of my New Year's resolutions, I decided to finally give my 1930s Normandy kitchen a facelift. I didn't want to hire a contractor, and I was curious to see how significant of a change I could create. Well, I am very happy with the result. I painted my walls white with Benjamin Moore's Decorator's White, deep cleaned everything with some help, added white Roman shades to all of my windows (including in my kitchen nook, which warmed it up immediately) and took off my cupboard doors to display my new white dishes. Below are all of the dishes and wineglasses that I purchased, and I recommend them without hesitation. There are also a few wall decorations and a few cookbooks, of course. — Shannon from The Simply Luxurious Life
Porcelain 24-Piece Dinnerware Set - $129.95
These white porcelain dishes are classic and sturdy and will make any food look magnificent. The best part is that you can mix up the tablecloth, centerpiece and other accessories and be certain that these will do their jobs.
Square Plate - $15.95
This small contemporary square dinner plate is perfect for a meal that is full of flavor and void of extra calories. I have fallen in love with it.
Café Collection Past Bowl - $14.95
As a lover of pasta, I wanted a dish that was made for the many pasta dishes I try. The actual bowl is a traditional size, but the grand size of the overall plate creates a wonderful presentation.
Blanc Footed Coffee Cup, 16-Ounce - $6.95
This coffee cup isn't the size of a gallon, yet it still will allow you to be sipping for quite some time. Or if you're like me, it makes the best teacup in the morning or evening that can hold just enough to wake me up or calm me down without shocking me to the bone.
White Ceramic-Crate Egg Holder - $12.95
My daily breakfast includes one farm-fresh egg. All of the brilliant different shades of brown and white that arrive from my chicken caretaker are not to be hidden, so a ceramic egg crate is the perfect item to place in the refrigerator. It's a simple and elegant way to spruce up the inside of the refrigerator.
White Porcelain Espresso Cup and Saucer - $4.95
The apartment I stayed in while traveling around London this past summer was equipped with a wonderful espresso machine and lovely white espresso cups and saucers. Hopefully someday I will have the machine, but for now, I have a pair of cups waiting to be used.
Stemless Wineglasses - $19.95
Perhaps you want to sip wine outside without worrying about tipping over the glass, or maybe you want to enjoy a glass without the fuss. These stemless wineglasses are just delicate enough, and also perfect for casual enjoyment of a glass of wine.
Viv 20-Ounce Big Red Wine Glass - $4.95
This big red wine glass was exactly what I was looking for as an every-wine glass to have on the shelf. It is nearly identical to the wineglasses I have seen at tastings. It is not too delicate or too large, and it looks stunning on the shelf.
Deep Oval Ramekin - $2.95
I adore having small white dishes available for carrying around a handful of grapes or nuts as I go about my business in the house. They keep things neat and tidy, and they aren't so large that I overeat.
Revol White Porcelain Soufflé Dishes - $10.95
I now have four of these white ramekins on hand for olive oil and balsamic vinaigrette or a small taste of ice cream. They are ideal.
Heritage Hill 64-Ounce Glass Jar With Lid - $9.95
I cannot rave enough about these glass canisters. I have looked for sturdy glass canisters to store my sugars, flour and oatmeal in on the counter, and I am thrilled with these. For less than $10 each, they are exactly what I was looking for.
Large Milk Bottle - $12.95
The inside of the refrigerator shouldn't be forgotten. And so this lovely porcelain milk container stores my cream.
When I first saw the original painting in London at the Tate Britain, I was immediately smitten. The story behind this painting spoke to me, as I'm the mama of two pups. While I will let you learn the painting's story on your own, my story ends with me purchasing the print, framing it in white and hanging it in the kitchen above the dishes. I couldn't have asked for a more perfect item of wall decor.
Infinity Instruments Retro Round Metal Wall Clock, White - $29
As much as I would love to linger in my kitchenette reading the morning news, I must skedaddle, and this white clock sets the right tone for my white and classically rustic French kitchen.
Hand-Woven Basket Natural Jute Rug - $98.09
With a large open floor, a room often needs to be warmed up, and a rug is my favorite way to do so. You don't need anything too expensive or something that competes with the rest of the decor. This natural jute rug is perfect.
Cordless Roman Shade, White - $110
Blinds.com customizes shades to fit your windows. They also allow you to choose from outside or inside mounts, so when I was picking out my white Roman shades, this was where I went. They have a kind of uniformity that brings the entire space together.
Utensil Holder - $29.95
The ability to grab the utensil you need without pulling out five other objects is a huge change in my kitchen. While I purchased my two white porcelain canisters from a local kitchen store, these look nearly identical. They made a wonderful addition.
Barefoot Contessa Foolproof: Recipes You Can Trust - $20.40
What would a kitchen be without some fantastic cookbooks? Ina Garten's most recent cookbook, Foolproof, is at the top of the New York Times bestseller list, and it is full of recipes that I can't wait to try.
Bouchon - $30.56
If you are looking for the best roasted chicken recipe, pick up Thomas Keller's Bouchon cookbook. Keep it on your counter because it is full of flavorful recipes.
Barefoot in Paris: Easy French Food You Can Make at Home - $19.98
This is one of the best Barefoot Contessa cookbooks, and it's a must-have if you happen to love to cook and consider yourself a Francophile.
