Tip: When dressing walls, think beyond framed artwork or photos. "Walls can be tricky to dress in an interesting way. The default is always to use art or family photos ... but I find that so dull and flat when used over and over again in every room," Meisels says. As an alternative, she creates a rhythm throughout a home using sconces, wallpaper, trim and other sculptural elements. "Because the room was a kitchen, I chose plates to add a touch of casual fun and color and also to echo round the shape of the table," Meisels says. How to create a plate composition: "I had such a good time pulling the plate collection together!" she says. I simply went to a china shop, picked a bunch of my favorites, laid them all out on the floor and started to mix and match. Anything that stood out as being too odd I eliminated while being mindful not to chose them all from the same designer. There is a common thread between all of the plates and platters, either through color or pattern. I also used a variety of sizes and shapes to keep the collection interesting."
little ruffles on barstool seats (cushions, too, which is nice for wood barstools)
How fun is that?
kitchen in-between living space and dining space. Pass-throughs create sight-lines between the three spaces.
doorway and mirror-matching arched pass-through right next to each other create larger opening, more light, more sight-lines.
buried the beam, then wrapped the supporting columns
integrating pass-through/bar into dining space
beam-wrap
pass-through
plank counters (reclaimed wood?)
bench seating
candles! couch and wing backs at table. very creative.
4" backsplash tile: love that trimwork/accenting. Think I want to do the tin backsplash thing: lots of reflected light while being very cool. Also, much more economical than glass tile.
ummm...wow. could do something like that oven backsplash/shelf for vinegars and such. Beams. Beautiful.
A cutting board over the garbage disposal. This is a perfect example of a clever design solution that saves time and effort.
