Touchdown! Winning Seating for Your Football Party
Prep the home stadium for game day with cushy sectionals, recliners and flexible extras
Labor Day has passed, school has begun and the air is crisp. To me, that really only means digging out my sweaters, but to millions of fans everywhere, the turning of the leaves equates one thing and one thing only: football. Weekends across the board are being cleared out to witness the action, and those who don’t have tickets will be enjoying the season in their own homes, most likely with friends.
As we all know, football fans get a little cranky if they can’t comfortably enjoy the game, so if you’re planning to host a football party or two, be sure you’ve got the proper seating situation to accommodate your guests. Whether it’s outfitting your media room with one large sectional or working a few ottomans into the mix, you’ll want to create a functional space that is equally comfortable.
Check out the following 11 arrangements that will keep your football guests smiling. As long as their team is winning, of course.

It’s hard to miss the mark with a sectional. Be sure to size it to your room: The last thing you want is for the space to feel crowded, especially once it’s filled with rowdy football fans. Pair it with additional chairs to balance the room and maximize the space.
Stadium seating in the basement? Your guests will never want to leave. Consider getting a custom made extra-long couch to fill the back wall to really take advantage of the space.
For an accommodating look, consider surrounding your media room with sofas. Sofas tend to take up less space while providing more seating than individual chairs, allowing you to squeeze in more people with less furniture bulk.
If you decide to surround your media room in sofas, be sure to arrange them so it’s easy for your guests to maneuver through the space. Instead of connecting the two separate sofas, this designer kept them apart to create a walkway. If a fan is getting a bit heated during a loss, this will provide him an easy escape to cool down elsewhere.
If you have room, consider more than one ottoman. In fact, several ottoman styles open up to reveal storage, so you can hide a bounty of foam fingers to cheer your team to victory. Place trays on top of the ottomans for drinks and snacks.
For a more versatile approach, use cube ottomans. They’re lightweight and portable, so a guest can easily pull one to the outer circle for a seat.
Ah, the multiple-recliner setup. This is perfect if you plan to host a few friends in absolute comfort. If stragglers come by, hand them a cold drink and sit them at the nearby bar. Everyone’s happy!
If you have the space and want to really go all-out, equip the entire room with recliners. This will be the most exclusive football-watching experience your friends could ever imagine. Especially if each armrest is accompanied by a martini.
If you want to get the whole deal done with one piece of furniture, go for an oversized couch complete with ottomans and an extra row of cushions. All the fans will be like a big happy family on this thing. After the game, they will likely transform into a big happy napping family.
This room pretty much culminates all the great things to include in the ultimate football-watching seating scenario. A super long sectional maximizes seating, while separate footrests can act as chairs for extra bodies. Tall tables behind the sofas are great places for snacks, and bar chairs provide even more seating. If I’m not mistaken, the ceiling looks like it’s working some serious acoustics. This is the most comfortable home stadium your fan friends will ever experience.
Seagrass Cube
If you're feeling like you may need a few last-minute seating options, cube ottomans can make all the difference. Seagrass ottomans are durable and will go with almost any decor scheme.
MUJI Beech Folding Chair
Folding chairs are also a quick-fix option. These MUJI chairs are stylish enough to be left out for awhile.
Beckham Pit Sectional
Or, if you're starting out anew or about to replace the current furniture in your media or family room, take a minute to dream about how wonderful this sectional would be from Bassett Furniture. It's a bit of a splurge, but everyone will absolutely love watching football at your house.
