nassaumary I suppose for photo shoots it makes sense, but it's sad when you go to a person's home and they have selected art work to match their colour scheme, or add a bowl of limes or lemons to a table because it adds a pop of colour. In the first picture, it would appear that the coffee table book was selected because of the colour of the cover.

debraney As for artwork matching decor, often it's the other way around: many people decorate their room around the colors of a favorite painting. And why not display the books and everyday objects that look best in your rooms? It's exactly those touches that add a little romance and class to everyday life. The aesthetic aspect of intentional living.

nassaumary Quite right - 'sad' is a bit harsh. Sorry bout that. Its not my place to criticize the taste or life choices of others. For me and my life, I love colour and have it throughout my home...but when it comes to coffee table books, I choose ones that might be of interest rather than basing it upon the colours of the cover. And when it comes to fruit - I like to eat it, rather than use it for decoration. As for folks decorating around their art - I completely agree that some do it. I believe, however, that more do it the other way around....they decorate their room, then select art for the walls that will suit the colours of the room. In all the 'design shows' I've watched, only one episode featured a couple who had a piece that needed to be the centre of the room's theme...the rest chose art to go with the style/colours of the room.

Texas Lightsmith Copper elements can add to an orange or red hued room. Try a custom copper mirror with a medium patina for a reddish tone, or a burnished copper vessel sink in a bathroom for a rich orange zing. Using amber mica as a diffuser in accent lights can add to the warmth in a room, too!

ajlegg I own a bookstore, and it's amazing how many times I have had a decorator stop in to pick out books to "go with" a room she is working on! It's better in my opinon, if a book not only accents the room, but is also one that is a topic of interest to you.
