Missoni for Target Collection Debuts to a Shopping Frenzy

Karen Heffernan Except for a handful of tote bags, everything was sold out in my local store by the afternoon. I did manage to order a few things online although they're not available until mid-October. There are a lot of things on eBay, but of course they're all marked up.

bettyboogie I made it there at 8:30 am and there was still some things to choose from. Not a full selection at my (smaller) store but I did score some things I really wanted, mug, milk crates, a dress, and gloves, I only really regret that I did not get the scarf and most of the housewares were gone when I got there. Tried to shop online but it was pretty horrible, crashed while I was checking out and lost what was in my cart. I am super pleased with my dress and hope that someone will return a the scarf right before I get there one of these days. ;-) same for the housewares I was wanting.

liv4evr This is just mean. Target should have prepared for this onslaught. I went online in the morning and the site was down already (I live in CA). I hope they restock SOON.

falmouth04 Got to my store (in MA) at 9am and there were still items available. I'm glad I got there when I did because after doing another loop around the store, most of the "must have" items were gone. I scored the cute flats, long navy cardigan, brown infinity scarf and a candle. Bummed I couldn't find the throw for my couch but so happy about my purchases! Cannot believe how much attention this line has received....wow! Good luck to those still searching for items!

princessfirefly I think there are a lot of lessons to be learned here. Obviously, there is a real market for affordable, fresh design.

Denise Vilim Yesterday morning about 10 am my local Target's Missoni endcap looked like the one pictured above, minus a few straggling items. I was lucky enough to get a zigzag coffee mug though. :)
I haven't checked the Target website.... Does anyone know if any of the Missoni items will be restocked in stores at some point in the future? Thanks!

katygo my store wasn't set up yet when i went yesterday afternoon. unless it was sold out already...oh no!

xcirce I got there by 8:20, and got quite a few things I wanted. However I put some things back I wish I hadn't. I really had not expected this. When I left at 9:30 most of the stuff was gone. I thought I could just pop on line later and pick up anything else I might like but most of the items I liked (that was on line only) was sold out by the time I could get the site up. I didn't want to go over board with it and I certainly don't want to walk around wearing the same exact outfit as several other people or have an overly Missoni(Target) house. I'm happy with the pieces I got. I can really mix and match them so that they blend in with my style.

kimshort22 decided to take my tennis lesson and missed the merchandise! I arrived at 11:30 and of course everything was gone! Did get one pair of socks for myself and a pair of wellies for my daughter though. I am surprised that Target allowed for multiple same items to be purchased--should have had a "2 per customer limit" like the grocery stores do on sales

woodka Obviously Missoni's inspiration is migraine headaches, since these are the patterns I see whenever I get one. Having these around would likely give me one. Going to Target pretty much gives me a headache these days anyway, given the crappy new store layout.

woodka I would love to see more designs by LOCAL artists, stocked and supplied locally, than all these big designer names made in China.

dragonflymorning I bought the beautiful cups from Target when the frenzy over John Derian was over. Anyone remember the insects and clover tumblers? I still LOVE the design, but given the fact that all the dishwasher safe cups cracked after a season of light use... I'll skip on Target unless it's on clearance and I can afford to loose it. They will be turned into planters next spring. Sigh.

lessalt I arrived at my local Target as the store opened. I live in an agricultural area so there were no lines. There wasn't a lot at my store but I bought the flats (they only had one pair in each size), two sweaters, a scarf, and some notecards. I wished I had bought the glass bowl. By the time I was checking out there were about three Missoni hunters.

colearnek I think it's funny that, considering the supposed "economic hardship" in the country, all these people who obviously don't work (since they can shop during the workday) can afford to buy everything in the store.

As usual all of the hard working people are left with the short end of the stick.

bettyboogie Wow there are a lot of really snarkey, bitter, and ignorant people commenting here. I guess I was naive to think that since this was an Interior Design blog, people would not stoop to high school type comments. There is a huge shortage of affordable and beautifully designed items, unless you like Ikea, which no one wants to talk bad about because it's "cool" however has a limited selection of items that are available for years on end and therefore common.

studio M | design i'm so disappointed in target. they advertised in 40 mag's and endlessly on TV, then had inadequate stock to sell, which alienated a lot of consumers. items in my on line cart disappeared, and i had to log on several times yesterday while their site crashed. some customers are having orders cancelled via email due to inadequate stock. target can't even keep track of their inventory?! if they're going to create such hype for a designer sale again, they really ought to get their act together, on many fronts!

additionally, they absolutely should have put a limit on the number of items that could be purchased. ebay sellers are having a field day with this. i read that there were over 25k items listed for sale already.

there was a today show spot this morning featuring Dustee, their VP of Comm. "design for all"? hardly. she used the on air time to sell sell sell. big business savvy and not one whiff of an apology to their customers. that's just bad business.

Deb Kapteyn I just want to say how pissed I am at all the ebay sellers who went to target to snatch up things they didn't even want, only to sell them on ebay at a 400% markup. The throw is being sold by some at $350.00 buy it now! Target has no intention of restocking anything.

Shawn Gauthier Hi everyone!! Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts on this launch. It clearly has been met with mixed reviews: I agree that with all the hype surrounding the line, Target likely should have been more prepared. They clearly know what they're doing in terms of product development - this overwhelming response to the line shows that today's consumer is on the hunt for affordable designer ware - however, it's unfortunate that stock fell quite short of demand. Here's to hoping they'll learn for the next time around. In the mean time, we should start voicing our opinions as to what great designer Target should collaborate with next!

Alexandra Keller i'm glad that i actually forgot about the launch. i did find some candles, which smell fantastic! i went again today & found a few small milk crates that match my candles. they're quite nice, but i'm not sure how long the fabric will last with constant use. i also spotted boots and shoes, which ran more than a size large. :( i did find a couple of pieces of clothing online - yay!
but i'm really surprised at target and missoni. i have never been a fan of the whole h&m launch craze, and i'm disappointed that this collaboration went in that direction. the whole idea was for it to be affordable design, and the execution sorely missed the mark. i agree with you - hopefully they'll learn from their mistakes!
and how about kelly wearstler?!
