The Tub With The Dragon Tattoo and Other Great Tubs

Whether in a large or small bathroom, the tub can be the most dominant piece to create the bathroom's mood. In a large room, unique tubs can stand on their own (literally--look below) as a sort of art piece. In smaller bathrooms, a unique tub can be a saving grace to what would otherwise be a bland utilitarian space.
Keep in mind that bathtubs can help a room assert its personality by considering three things:
the tub's shape
the color
the placement
When designing their home a decade ago, my own parents found a century-old claw-foot at an outdoor antique mart and refurbished it to bubble-bath splendor. Yet as you will see, modern choices placed right can be just as unique. Take a look.

The Tub With The Dragon Tattoo? This tub becomes unique art in this oriental space, leaving no need for extra "decor."
Modern and sleek, this tub makes use of the blank space around it to suggest luxury and to stand beautifully on its own.

Another modern choice, with a clean square shape and unique and useful orange details.

In a smaller space, this tub almost camouflages into the wall, pleasantly.
Tongue firmly planted in cheek on this one. Complete whimsy and individuality. Milk bath, anyone?
Here this gracefully-shaped tub places a supporting role to the dark wood, the beautiful Tiffany's blue tiling, and the chandelier above.
A similar tub, and a similar supporting role in this simple (but not in any way dull) bathroom. Clean and straightforward and classic.
A smaller inclusion of color in this girly room.
Darker and more contrasting, this darkly-painted tub adds just the right amount of detail in this small but lovely bathroom.
Such a lovely addition to this open room, creating not only a bathing space but an entire feminine boudoir.
Another tub in another open space, this time set near the bedroom itself, and drawing on the dark walls with panache.

gworrel Great collection of photos. In looking back over them one thing I didn't see the first time is the framed purple wall behind the glowing white tub. Also, the "dark wood" in the photo with the blue tile is probably tile.

lindalee I love the claw foot tubs and when I redid a guest room I installed an antique tub thinking it was the most wonderful selection in the world. Alas, many of my guests are too large to fit in a claw foot tub comfortably so go to other parts of the house to find a shower. Something to consider when installing one. Linda
