My kitchen is 30 years old, original cabinets. I can't wait to re-do. I would love to put in seating like that in our breakfast area.

justcured Not a fan of pot fillers in residential kitchens. I have seen many in commercial kitchens over the years, and they all have one thing in common -- they develop little drippy leaks.

JmsPdx A very pretty kitchen! As for the pot-filler side discussion, I always coveted that piece of equipment--until we bought a house with one. While it's very nice to fill a ginormous pasta pot right at the stove, you still have to haul it to the sink to empty it. I suppose it reduces sloshing and schlepping by 50%, but I'm still not sure it's something I'd devote any part of my budget to in a future build or remodel. Also, the night we moved in, our exploring cat sneaked up on the counter and turned it on by rubbing against it. Good thing we were home and heard the running water, or we'd have had quite a problem.

jmderrico This is just gorgeous. Just one question, did you completely get rid of a dining room, and make one general eating area? We are thinking of incorporating our formal dining room into our kitchen and doing away with the whole "formal dining room" thing--waste of space in our opinion. What are your thoughts on this?

Wisemart I really like what they did with the kitchen, however the dining nook seems quite impractical. In the very same spot, I would have done a very long table with a backless bench on one side and the booth on the other. It looks very nice in the picture, but there's barely any room to put the food on the table and the family has to eat with the back at each other? I would not be able to live with that choice, but it must work for them. We have a large family, as well, and an 8' table with benches and end chairs in the kitchen was the best thing we've ever done for our house. We gave up on a formal dining and I sacrificed an island for that and don't regret a bit. Everybody wants to be in the kitchen, now and every meal seems so special!

wantsideas I like the design element of the custom tables with the removable glass to rotate small items in and out for display. I have always liked the idea of the pot filler at the stove but never thought about having to carry the now boiling pot back to the sink to drain!

it concerns me that the gas burners are so close to the cabinetry coming down to the counter each side of the range. not only is it unsafe, but also very limiting for larger pots and handles. as a professional kitchen designer, this one scares me!
i also have an aversion to "birds on a wire" eating counters. not very conversation freindly.
the light overall color and use of accents is very appealing though.

Lisa A I'm not a big fan of this kitchen and agree with the 'disjointed-ness' comments. They're crisp white cabinets with a rather formal marble counter with rustic accents. There's 'contrast' and then there's 'disjointed'. Why someone with four children would install marble is beyond me. I placed Silestone "Lira" on vanities and pat myself on the back every day (and esp. when I get hair color on it and wipe off without incident). Marble is a Ming vase on the coffee table with four kids playing catch in the living room -- too much of a liability. I don't get the ginormous stove - I mean, cooking a larger amount requires a larger pot, not additional burners. I'm not a fan of the pot filler either and as another reviewer so aptly reported - you still have to schlep the pot to sink to empty it so the expense is hardly justified. I'm sure it's better than the builder grade kitchen but it seems like an overly expensive kitchen for its usage and impact.

Casart Coverings I really love this tile -- colors and look. I wonder what the labor cost was to achieve? We have a similar design as removable and reusable wallcovering that would achieve a similar effect with less cost involved -- for a bookcase backing or kitchen backsplash (rather than behind the stove, however). Plus, you could simple remove (and reuse) whenever you wanted.

dcathman I don't see a refrigerator. That would mean a big one since they want a big stove to cook. I agree with most of the critical concerns; stove burners, the the pot filler and the table limiting any food platters or bowl. I guess in terms of eating at the time, one fill their plates and bowls in another area and move to the dining area. I love the colors, especially the teal.

jaxsue I really like the dog bowl nook and the creative use of the dining room space. I'm an empty nester and am open to non-traditional dining spaces (for me, at least, that didn't kick in until the kids were gone). Thanks to the many seating options, you can choose where you sit on a whim!

Monalynn Carter If they love it and it works for them that is the most important thing, but this is certainly not my style. Looks like a nightmare to keep clean with 4 kids and the dog bowls....on white...really?! Someone is going to be scrubbing that platform frequently!

CAROLE MEYER About that pot filler....I agree with Jodi. If you are going to have a pot filler, be sure to have a little prep sink near the stove to empty the now HOT water into. I guess it saves sloshing cold water from the sink to the stove, but the real problem is when you are emptying HOT water. In our last kitchen I designed it so that the prep area was very near the stove and thus I could fill my pasta pot from the pot filler and empty it in the little prep sink without having to carry it across the room to the main sink......it worked very well. By the way, I love this turquoise tile in the kitchen above.....beautiful!

penelopesdreamydesigns The two cabinets closest to the burners could be easily removed due to the close proximity of the burners.

JmsPdx I personally like surfaces, like white ones, that show some dirt. That way I know I'll clean frequently. It sort of makes me queasy, especially in a kitchen, to have materials and finishes that hide soil too much. With dark colors, spatters, gunky fingerprints, and dog sloppage have the opportunity to get pretty out of hand before you notice--and clean--them.

snchry I'm having a hard time picturing this flow. What is in front of the breakfast nook? The living room? Is that setup so people can eat and watch TV and technically still be in the dining room?

Fratelli Spinelli Interesting use of materials. However, to me, the big horizontal wood trim across the front of the vent hood is an eyesore, and the large-fold window coverings draw the eye immediately to them instead of the simple and attractive cabinetry. The tile work also draws the eye to all the wrong places. Love dogs, don't really want to focus on their dishes when entering a kitchen.

caltrop I agree with the earlier comment - this is a severe code violation and fire hazard - the countertop cabinets either side of the range have zero clearance to the burners; Wolf specifies a minimum of 6" from the side of the range to the nearest combustible surface. I wonder if those cabinets were there when the building inspector signed off on this? It looks like they might have been sneaked in afterwards to get around the violation.

Second, I just wonder how it would be to have the turquoise tile repeated in another area. Perhaps the back wall of the cabinet with the dishes. I love that tile and think it could be just a little more! Love the colors of the lily's in the room. Bravo on the whole project!

bethie64 We did a major renovation approx. a year ago and used honed marble for the countertops. We love them! No, it's not the pristine shiney look of granite but instead a very natural look. Most "anti-marble" people have never lived with it. It cleans up easily, will stain if some spills are left for long periods but we've had parties with red wine and spaghetti sauce spills but not stains since they were wiped off at the end of the night. Water rings can be buffed out with a very fine sandpaper. We combined a seldom used dining room with the kitchen to open into the family room and was a great choice. The table seats up to 12 and the space is used with every gathering instead of only on holidays. Considered the pot filler but also decided against since still required carrying the boiling water to drain.

I totally agree with the pot-filler argument--seems like something not worth spending money on, since you do still have to lug the hot pot back to the sink. And anyway what size pots are people using that they can't carry them from the sink to the range?
The bleached floors and wood beam over the range are just beautiful and add a wonderful texture to the pristine white of the cabinets. Also love the cabinet hardware.

Also would have chosen something for the island that would be more interesting. Anybody can do white and white. Loved the turqoise. and the lights colored concrete might work or soapstone even a beautiful wood

Keith James Not trying to be negative, but am I the only one who is REALLY tired of seeing this same Moroccan design on everything? Walls, lamps, pillows, rugs, upholstery, tiles, etc... it's being over-used and is seemingly the ONLY trend these days. Seriously, designers, it doesn't work everywhere, come up with something new.

Bonnie Whatever you do, please do not paint your cabinets that awful Turquoise that Dura Supreme Cabinetry is trying to sell you on. This type of color is so color specific and only one or two people are going to like it the way you would, and you would either have to lower your price drastically or repaint the cabinets when you try to sell your home. Or just wait forever and hope and pray someone else is going to love that color the same way you would. The liitle touch of turquoise tile in the original photo is enough for that color. White cabinets would sell so much faster and are a lot easier on the eye.

Bonnie A good designer would add accent pieces in the room to give it more color and make it pop a little more. These things can be removed when selling easily, unlike the cabinets.

Diana Bier Interiors, LLC Hi Bonnie, I agree with you if you plan on selling your home in the very near future. However, if you plan on staying, then go for it and get what you like! Also, if a kitchen or a bathroom is more than 5 or so years old, new owners are going to rip it out and replace it anyway! Trying to design or decorate your home with future buyers in mind is always difficult to do.

Bonnie Not really Diana, all I meant was don't pick colors that are so out there your going to limit yourself to one or two possible buyers. Painting a wall over is easy, removing wall paper throughout a home is not so easy. And yes, if a room has not been remodeled in a long time the new owners probably will redo it, but they could wait for a while if they need to.
