My love for design led me to starting a career as an architecture, interior and fashion design writer. The great thing about it is having an excuse to hunt for life’s design luxuries, from bespoke fashions to fine architectural interiors.

The Logic of Brights: Jazzing Up Neutrals With Shots of Color (one comment)

View Slideshow
Dwelling in a beige-boring world? Vanquish color-phobia with a small dose of brights that’s enough to grant your casa a zesty spin. Bold color fusions of sunny yellows, cool aquamarines, grassy greens and mango reds are sure to spring out against neutral habitats. Almost any item is suitable for this color splashing project since brights are filtering down even into tea kettles and cookware. The choices are boundless. You can even borrow a bright-hued panorama. Check if there’s a wall that’s visible from a room, paint it in a vivid shade and you’ll be adding punch to an achromatic room without injecting color directly inside.

If you find yourself overwhelmed by options, consider colors you are genuinely drawn to and that enrich what you already own. You may also take inspiration from art. You’ll be impressed at the numerous great colors and compositions you can find in the works of many artists. To spark my imagination I often browse paintings from Clyfford Still, Mario Zampedroni and Maurice Denis.

Start by linking elements that conceive visual harmony, that make sense, and then you’ll be on your way to a striking home.
The design, materials, and color palette all celebrate great style. The chocolate brown sofa plays a starring role in this living room because of how green enhances its beauty. It's a space with a strong sense of place.

This color combination is just dreamy. Bright yellow is emboldened by baby blue, making a fun and modern patio.

White is very fitting here and it complements all the other colors. But fern green adds the modern twist to this room.

Yellow pops beautifully here. Look at the borrowed panorama we were talking about. The colorful exterior extends to the interior seamlessly, pulling colors together.

A dash of orange is all this pool area needed to gather a fresh and effortless air. Nature added its color scheme of green from the trees, and blue from the sky to the pool area’s aqua blue and rustic beige.

Sea blue chairs unify the all-white structure to the streamlined aesthetic of the pool. Echoing colors is very important, see how blue is repeated in the sky, pool and then the chairs.

The strong salmon shade of the building shines thanks to the white accents. The meager amount of white in the chairs, window frames and details in the structure join forces to make a big statement.

Green chairs are stylish, plain and simple. But this working area gets its cool vibe from the floating teak counter, ingenuous projection screen and obviously, the absolutely cool green chairs!

Warm in texture, tropical in spirit; colorful pillows and pottery give plain white settings a spin. This exotic terrace is just right for a breezy dinner party or lazy lunch.
