Santa Barbara landscape designer Margie Grace sees opportunities for creativity in the new regulations. “We’re on the cusp of an explosion in landscape innovation. We’ll see new aesthetics emerging, new technologies, practices and methodologies, and the emergence of ecology-based landscaping. This is the kind of shift in mind-set that precedes rapid change on a large scale,” Grace says.
4. Go bigger with seating, smaller with tables. A big couch can seat more people than a cluster of chairs, and it looks less cluttered, while small, portable tables won’t trip anyone up in navigating a small space. To sneak in even more seating, try adding a window seat, or tuck a pair of ottomans beneath a console table.
For color. Corrugated metal also comes in various colors, with a painted layer on top of the bonded galvanized layer. There are also methods of painting corrugated panels yourself, but consult your local hardware store for information on primers and sealers and how to use them safely. Here, pale aqua is the main accent color, with just a dash of vibrant yellow.

Go dry. With a jet-style fountain, aeration causes a significant amount of water to be lost to evaporation. Yes, they are pretty, and we love the sound of running water, but consider running fountains and waterfalls only when you’re entertaining. With its classic shape and bands of textural interest, this well-designed fountain would look great even when dry.
