Modern Icons: The Noguchi Coffee Table
It's very tough to pick just one icon from all of the work of Isamu Noguchi, so I'm planning on sharing some of his other work, such as his oft-imitated lamps, in the future. I'd also love to share his playgrounds with you sometime (I'm lucky enough to have one a mile from my house). However, today we are going to concentrate on what is probably the most popular modern coffee table out there. In fact, according to the Noguchi Museum's website, "late in his life the artist felt that it [the coffee table] was the only instance in which he had been wholly successful in the field of industrial design." I suppose that helped my choice as well. Here is the table hard at work:
Likewise, I just know these chairs must be iconic, but I don't know what they are. Do you? Please let me know in the comments section. I would like to properly ID the entire Noguchi Posse! UPDATE: Thanks to tpreston for letting me know that these are the JJ armchair - Antonio Citterio by B&B Italia!
Isamu Noguchi and George Nelson were colleagues, and in 1947, The Herman Miller Company began production of this table. Thus, it's poetic to pair Noguchi's table with Nelson Pendant Lights.
