Modern Icons: The Navy Chair

You've probably noticed Emeco chairs in many home design spreads. The Emeco Navy Chair is a true test of form following function, and the resulting form becoming a classic that endures. In fact, when Emeco chairs were originally created for the U.S. Navy during the World War II era, they were designed to endure for at least 150 years. They were also designed to withstand torpedo blasts on warships. I don't know what kind of abuse modern Navy chair enthusiasts are planning on putting their chairs through, but I think it can take just about anything you throw at it.

Another thing that makes Navy chairs great is that they have a feel-good aspect; they are made from 80% recycled aluminum. Recently, they decided to expand the tradition of promoting recycling. Just this year,Emeco produced the 111 Navy Chair. Partnering with Coca-Cola, Emeco has made an effort to increase plastic bottle recycling. Each 111 Navy Chair uses the plastic from 111 recycled plastic bottles. Alright, I don't mean to sound like an Emeco commercial, I'm just a big fan of companies that care about quality and making things better.
