Fabulous, Must-Have Features for Fall and Winter Outdoor Spaces
This time of year turns me into the proverbial ostrich. Yep, that’s me over there with my head firmly stuck in the sand…trying to ignore the shorter days and cooler nights, all the while pretending like summer isn’t fast coming to an end. I do so love hot weather but even this ostrich knows fall is most assuredly on its way.
So, what do all good ostriches do when faced with the inevitable? How do we hold off Old Man Winter just a little longer so we can continue enjoying leisurely evenings and weekends on our porches, patios and decks?
Ostriches unite! Time to pull our heads out of the sands of denial and take hope. Houzz is overflowing with amazing outdoor spaces…all cleverly designed with great details and beautiful outdoor fireplaces that are sure to carry us deep into autumn and beyond.
The daylight may be gradually seeping away but festive gatherings outside with friends and family are still possible when practical features and great design are incorporated into our outdoor spaces.

It may be getting a bit too cold for a dip in the pool...unless, of course, it's a heated pool. But relaxing under a beautiful pavillion in front of a warm, always ready, gas fireplace would certainly make for a great ending to a fall day. Of course, an overhead heater as shown here, never hurts either. :)

I love this beautiful slate floor paired with the gorgeous brick and stone fireplace. I could totally see throwing down a wooly rug in warm, rich hues to cozy this space up even more for those fall and winter evenings. Isn't the branch chandelier wonderful? Imagine watching the leaves turn bright red and gold while sipping hot chocolate in front of a roaring fire, all set to the music of a beautiful waterfall. Yep, it's perfect!
Another great porch built for fall and winter entertaining. I even see an outdoor kitchen peeking out from around the corner. Wonder if those are lanterns on the mantel...what do you think?

LaCausey, I worried about the same thing when I added my porch, but I didn't see that big a change in the light into my home. It did drastically reduce my cooling bill though since the porch is on the south side of my home. Love that added benefit. I think skylights would be wonderful.
