Designing the Beach or Nautical Themed Room

The themed room...they are so much fun to put together, especially when it's a child's room or nursery. As adults, we sometimes shy away from decorating a room around a set theme. But when it comes to children's spaces...we can let our playful side show and have a blast.

I've found some wonderful beach and nautical rooms while sailing the halls of houzz. If you love all things beachy, you're going to find a sea of inspiration in these rooms!
Nurseries are great rooms for decorating in the nautical theme. This room would easily make the transition to a child's room when the time comes. Just replace the crib with a single of full size bed and you're all set.
This nursery is also sporting a nautical design with a sailboat mobile hanging above the crib and cute nautical themed bedding. Beachy art adorns horizontal-striped blue and white walls. The sailboat pillow and lantern lamp complete the look.
There's lots of nautical inspiration to be found in this nursery...from the artwork to the pillows to the wonderful compass painted on the ceiling overhead. There's even a ship's wheel secured on the shelf above the crib.
A lantern, little sailboat, sailing race flags and some wonderful blue and white bedding gives them child's room a subtle but definite nautical theme.
Do you see the nautical touches in this child's room? Look closely and you'll find a lighthouse on the shelves, a life ring hanging in the corner and an adorable tugboat border circling the room.
Easy to spot the nautical decor in this room, isn't it? I love that the boat/bed, has oodles of storage underneath. Once again we see a lantern used as lighting for this nautical themed room.
Nautical themed rooms are not just for children's rooms. The blue and white striped bedding, casual chest and life ring wall art make this a fabulous bedroom for any beach lover.
This guest room goes nautical with ticking bedding, a cute sailboat and an old oar hanging overhead.
Soft blues and whites create a wonderful beach and nautical themed look for this cozy cottage. Note the ship painting, starfish and seahorse pillow, and the big starfish decorating the kitchen walls. The beadboard walls and ceiling look right at home and add another dimension to the room. Love the extra texture brought into the room with the woven basket.
This darling Cape Cod cottage with its ocean view sports a wonderful blue and white striped sofa and starfish pillow. I would never leave this room!
Blue and white are a natural color scheme for the nautical themed room...blue so beautifully representing the sky and sea. This bathroom gets a few additional nautical touches via the coral and seagull art.
Porthole windows add whimsy galore to this nautical themed bedroom.
Love the compass points running around the tray ceiling...so clever! Do you think the map displayed on the mantel leads to hidden treasure? I believe!
Striped bed linens and nautical themed wall art give this room its decidedly beachy feel.
Can you just imagine the ocean breezes blowing through those wonderful windows? This room gives you that nautical, beachy feel with its blue and white striped sofa and white slip-covered chair, though there are no obvious beach themed accessories. The ocean breeze and the sound of waves crashing on the beach are all the accessories needed.

Beach and nautical themed rooms are truly classic. They will go out of style when flip flops, sailing and beach trips go out of style. Never.

Irene Turner at Home why does a nautical themed room have to be red white and blue?

Between Naps on the Porch iturner...I think you'll like 2 or 3 rooms in this Ideabook...the ones that are just soft blue and white. Blue is very popular in nautical/beachy rooms since it usually symbolizes the ocean and sky.
