Circular Reasoning: Add Feng Shui Unity and Harmony to Your Space (5 comments)

View Slideshow
In feng shui, circles mean harmony and unity. How can this be applied to decorating? A very straightforward example is using a circular dining room table. It allows better circulation around the room, and brings people together. There is equality at a circular table; no one is at the head, and sharp corners don't divide people.

I'm not trying to get too new age-y here, I'm really just trying to come up with an excuse to showcase some great uses of circle and spheres in design. From wall applications to hanging chairs, gourd lamps to ottomans, conversation pits to hanging plates, I've yet to meet a home decor circle I don't like. It must be that whole harmony thing...
I've seen a lot of D.I.Y. projects over the years, but I hadn't seen a pattern of circles at this scale until this picture. Brilliant!

These hanging chairs will always have a futuristic look. I still expect to see Astro and Rosie come around the corner whenever I see one.

This textured wall adds so much interest in a space of neutral colors.

O.K., is this a photography effect or the opening to this wine cellar. I like to think the latter - it's such a cool cavern.

These circular plates do a dance around the rectangles in the room.

Is there anything more pleasing to look at in a landscape than lily pads? Monet agrees.

It's great to use simple shapes in a kid's room. This little table is so welcoming, and inspires creativity.

This small tulip table makes an otherwise unusable and tight corner into an inviting eating area.

This is one of my three donut phones. I can't get enough of them. Maybe it's the whole "unity" thing...

These circular and sculptural chairs are great in this gallery-like space.

This is the image that made me start seeking out circles.

Oh, and this one too.

Of course, circular conversation pits inspire the most interaction between the people sitting in it.

I'm sure a circle plus fire equals something in feng shui, but frankly, I don't know. Make something up and tell me in the comments!

Isn't that cool? I've seen a lot of amazing wallpapers, DIY patterns and stencils lately, but not at that scale.
Interesting posting! The circle is such a mystical geometric figure and I am glad to find other designers who love it as much as I do! I am a visionary artist, designer and feng shui consultant, lover of earth and all things sacred.
