I've never met a male peacock I didn't like. He is skillful at capturing the attention of the female with his gorgeous spread of flamboyant feathers. His counterparts, and those of the human variety, swoon over his grandeur. How can one resist such charm?

Over the years, his eye-spotted tail has been the inspiration behind various home décor products and has experienced a surge in consumer interest with the latest product showcases at the Fall 2011 High Point Market. There are wild peacocks living in my neighborhood. Although much romanticized by the design world right now, they are awful to live with. Though they are fun to look at, they are messy and noisy. They remind me of glorified turkeys. And they can really scratch up the paint on your car if they decide to roost on it. So although I do love their beautiful plumage, I won't be using them in my home decor.

I must be ahead of my time, or maybe just clairvoyant? I did my powder room three years ago by starting with a peacock I found in a barn at an estate sale. It looks like the one over the bed in the last photo. I painted it -- peacock blue of course! I have an Imari plate with two peacocks, and some feathers in a tall vase -- I need to take a photo for you!
