Vanity Towers Take Bathroom Storage to New Heights

bend2011 We just remodeled our master bath and included one of these towers...we love it. We even put the electrical outlet inside and one on each side on the outside! Best thing I ever did!

Pascale In our very tiny master bath we did two towers - the added storage is fabulous! Like Bend2011, we added an outlet inside one of the towers for hubby's electric razor and for a small radio we keep inside the cabinet. We also attached a Restoration Hardware magnifying extension mirror to the side of one of the towers - something we really appreciate as we get older!

gojanice I have a tower between the two master sinks. It frustrates me to no end because you can't put anything on the counter because you need the space to open the doors. When the doors are open, it blocks the light and you can't see stuff in the cabinet. I may be OK with two towers on either side of the sink, but I really don't enjoy the middle tower. One of your pictures shows a decorative piece in front of the tower. Of course, this could not work because you couldn't open the doors. I guess the good thing is since I have absolutely no counter space, I HAVE to put away my stuff.

kjmc1749 Has anyone seen a center upper cabinet on a dual sink counter, where the doors open on the side, instead of the front the same way the lower cabinets open? That would allow the decorative items on the front, and if hinged at the back of the counter, not block lighting? I'd appreciate any photos you can share.

anne08 Pascale- your design is exactly what I have been looking for was it custom made?

Pascale Anne, we actually used standard kitchen cabinets for our bathroom - we wanted taller and deeper base cabinets, which allowed for the towers on top of the counter. The company we used (Canac) offered the towers, in different heights, as part of their line of kitchen cabinets, and they came with the option to have glass inserts in the door; we skipped the glass and had custom beveled mirrors made at a local glass shop to insert instead. (We also ordered extra trim from the cabinet company and made a matching frame and mirror for the area between the towers.) For some reason the original photos I posted were cut short - the towers nearly reach the ceiling and are topped with dentil molding which we also ordered at the same time we ordered the cabinets. We originally wanted the cabinets and molding to reach to the ceiling but didn't quite calculate correctly - we did the remodel ourselves and it was definitely a learning process, but in the end we were very happy with results!

Pascale Happy to share, Anne! For the base cabinets we used a 30" sink cabinet and two 12" bank of drawers on each side of the sink cabinet. (There are four drawers in each of the 12" cabinets.) The upper cabinets are 12" wide and 12" deep and 51" tall, including the 4" molding on top; being Miss Symmetrical, I insisted the top cabinets align perfectly with the 12" bank of drawers beneath the counter. With 24" deep cabinets this leaves plenty of counter space to set stuff down while getting ready in the morning. Good luck with with your project! :-)

poulet Pascale, I could just KISS you! I've been obsessing for weeks on whether my little 56" area would be large enough for sink in the middle and towers on each side. From what I understand you saying, your towers were 12". Hope I interpreted that correctly. Anyway, it looks beautiful (your pictures) and now finally I can move on to other matters, such as faucets, plumbing probs, etc. Thank you so much!

Pascale Poulet, so glad to be of help! :-) Yes, our towers are each a foot square, so very compact, but perfect for all the little things that we need in the bathroom. The tower on the left is up against a wall, so it was easy to put an outlet in the cabinet - besides a small radio we also keep my husband's electric razor and our Sonicare toothbrush in there, as well as other items like a clock. The other tower is next to a window, so like you, we did a lot of careful planning to make sure everything would fit. Hubby wondered if we should do a double sink instead, but I had my heart set on the extra storage that the towers would provide, plus I didn't care for the idea of cleaning two sinks! ;-) Best of luck with the remodel!

liselongboat Is there a backsplash to prevent water from damaging the bottom of the tower ?

Pascale We installed a backsplash behind our sink and on the sides of the towers; it is 6 1/2" tall to match the height of the drawers at the bottom of our towers. (I figured drawers that held little used items would let us set stuff down on the counters and allow us to open the tower cabinets at the same time.) We used a 3cm thick butterfly blue granite - I love the mixture of sky blue, which compliments our bedroom walls, sage green which matches the bathroom walls, and spots of deep burgundy which compliments the cabinets, plus flecks of gold for added sparkle - it's a gorgeous granite, like a mixture of precious stones. Since it is a small bathroom it was an affordable splurge!
