Houzz Tour: Neo-Traditional Style in Georgetown
Textures, patterns, and clean-lined furnishings give traditional townhouse an urban update
When a budding attorney decided to plant her roots in the upscale Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, D.C., she called upon Zoe Feldman of Zoe Feldman Design to assist her in renovating the newly purchased rowhouse. The goal was to infuse the traditional space with urban appeal and honor the exclusive neighborhood without feeling pretentious. The result is best described as classic, neo-traditional with a modern twist. Mission accomplished.
From the handcrafted limestone floors to the netted-glass pendant, Sorenson by Remains, this classic foyer provides more clues to the modern updates that have taken place in this home.
Carpeted in a stunning hexagon pattern (David Hicks Hexagon House II by Ashley Hicks) the winding staircase divides the public and private areas of the home.
A mix of textures, patterns, materials, and clean-lined furnishings contributes to the home's urban update on traditional style.
Initially, the homeowners were skeptical when Feldman suggested painting the existing cabinetry a glossy black. They were glad they heeded her advice when they saw the remarkable results.
Like a fresh white shirt against a tuxedo, honed Calacatta marble countertops provide a graphic contrast to the dark cabinets. The marble's veins add a subtle hint of color.
A Calacatta marble backsplash and a New Negro-Marquina marble floor polishes off this sexy, sophisticated kitchen.
Shiny black doors and Calacatta marble make another appearance in the intimate guest bathroom. An apartment-sized clawfoot tub offers a touch of luxury for visiting guests.
The juxtaposition of the dark, modern doors, traditional reupholstered headboard, and global-infused textiles introduces a neo-traditional vibe in the master bedroom. Suzani-patterned bedding by Natori takes center stage.
Constructed from the same metallic linen, a trio of functional relaxed roman shades offers both casual beauty and privacy.
A combination of slab and cut limestone sets the tone for luxury and relaxation in this airy master bathroom. The herringbone-patterned floor adds visual interest while maintaining a neutral palette.
The vanity is fit for a queen, complete with a shagreen leather inlay.
The Cartwright Double Vanity by Restoration Hardware received an instant upgrade when topped with an earthy limestone.

In the bay window, a custom radiator cover topped with an upholstered cushion provides a window seat for taking in beautiful views of the city. Panels in a linen-silk blend fabric by Nancy Corzine frame the ensemble.
