I am a mother to three children who at the end of a long day....i have to battle them to get in the tub. I dream of soaking in a tub at the end of my day....my glass or two of wine in hand....possibly my favorite magazine...and absolutely...under no condition will there be children allowed.
I dream of bathing in a clawfoot tub...and if my dream were to come true..these tubs would be mine.
It would even be nicer if i were sitting in the south of France...at a little inn ...but since that's not happening..i will gladly dream about some of these tubs.
Do you have a clawfoot tub or are you like the majority of us....just end up dreamining of bathing in one?
Plantation shutters are another "dream". Let in as much light as you want in here.I also love the little piece of marble sitting above the radiatior to act as a table top. Genius idea!
I actually took this photo of a favorite house in my neighborhood. I hope the owners don't come home to find me in their bathroom again. That was awkward
I think i would forgo the bathing with wine in here and go straight for the champagne. Two glasses please while i soak in my pink tub. I might even turn on my pink radio to listen to some tunes.
The blue tub snuggled right in makes this space cozy and dreamy. I am loving the high back to this tub so that i might rest my weary head. I might have to sip my blue martini in here.
This might not be a clawfoot tub...but it looks big enough for my whole family to bathe in. Not that i want my whole family in it...but i love the size.
I'm really not a bather, not that I'm stinky, just prefer showers. I would need tons of bubbles, its the whole staring at myself naked thing. But oh my, the blue tub with the high back is my favorite. And the little piece of marble on top of the radiator. Great idea.
In France, where I used to live until 1975, we have always had clawfoot tubs at home, and it seemed quite normal and not at all a luxury. But, when I arrived in Canada, I realized there were indeed a luxury comparing to the shallow and uncomfortable baths then in use here!
Fortunately, when we purchased our present home, which was built in 1980, this fabulous "birthday bath! was staging in the master bathroom"!
A good thing about this kind of bath, is that they never go out of fashion. Kohler still manufactures exactly the same model... in the same color!
Oh Kasey, I am so glad you are now writing for Houzz! I absolutely L.O.V.E your blog and you are just so damn funny, you have the most adorable kids and well, your style is too die for! Houzz is lucky to have you!
From "the girl who finally made it to yoga today"
Fabulous tubs! I remember "playing" in one at my grandmother's house when I was very young. Now I'd love to be soaking in one of my own with tons of bubbles! Maybe one day.
how funny to see this post today! I just bought a clawfoot tub last night. used 100.00, weights more than a car. bought it to go in our 1870 gothic revival. I had one 32 yrs ago that was in our living room with pillows. the kids played in it, I read in it and my baby (now 33) would take his naps in it. I thank God that noone knocked their teeth out climbing in and out of that thing. sold it in 83 for 75.00 and now, many moons later buy another one for 25.00 more.
I'd always wanted a claw foot tub and bought one over a year ago to go in our hall bath room. It's still sitting in our living room waiting for me to decide on the flooring for the bath room! My grandbabies love playing in it.
Kasey, love the tubs and of course, it's every busy mom's dream to just have the time to soak in ANY tub! Two bits of advice: lock the door if you want privacy and relaxation and if you are in that pink tub and put your pink radio on that shelf, for goodness sake DON'T turn it on as you could be electrocuted.
I too have long longed for a claw foot tub. I am presently renovating a house in the North Georgia mountains and my beautiful slipper tub arrived last week and is being installed "as we speak." I can't wait! I will send photos.
I must be the odd one out. I grew up with a claw foot tub, and in my first apt I had one, not by choice. I always thought they were inconvenient, hard to clean around and uncomfortable. Of course I'm more of a shower person. But I'd rather have sides to put soaps, washcloths or bathsalts.
Love the inspriration tubs you've shown! And yes, I do have a claw foot tub, original to my home~ We chose to put it in the guest bath, but I can sneek in there anytime!
I cringe everytime I see these types of baths. An invention from the past which should stay well in the past and in houses of such that they would be present in. Totally impractical today, only suitable for younger people yearning for a bit of Nostalgia! Cleaning the inside of a bath by the person using it is obviously mandatory and taken for granted. But, to have to manipulate your body to clean the outside area and surrounding surface is challenging. Only suitable for households who employ a very flexible and accommodating cleaner. Totally English empire stuff!
Jule_shep...thank you so much for giving us your input. Thank goodness we all have different taste for things or the world would be so boring. If i ever do get a tub though...i will make sure my husband does the cleaning.
we built a vacation home on the big island of Hawaii above the volcano.the master bed room is one the second floor.I can lay in my claw foot tub and see mona kea out one window and mona loa out the other window. they are beautiful snow capped in the winter. it is so relaxing. I love it.
I dream of taking baths in such a tub. While some people do not prefer baths (or the cleaning of tubs), for me, a bubble bath with dimmed lights, candle, essential oils, and a glass of wine is the epitome of relaxation at the end of a long day. Dream, dream, dream
