When we requested a peek into Dayka Robinson's vintage-styled home, she graciously escorted us to her bedroom retreat. This Atlanta-based interior designer known for her penchant for uncovering sought-after relics also has a talent for restoring one-of-a-kind vintage furniture. "Incorporating vintage pieces into your home's decor is an essential part of creating an well-curated look," she says. Her light-filled bedroom is evidence that she practice what she preaches.
"Repetition is what makes a mix of styles feel cohesive," says Robinson who pins her personal style as a fusion of traditional, vintage and modern. The high-contrast black-and-white color palette repeats itself in the striped comforter, custom Euro pillows and bedskirt, and in the custom drapery which Robinson deems a splurge-worth item.
Remarkably, this saucy pair of nightstands in a high-gloss lacquered finish were not purchased off a showroom floor. They were the result of a professional refinishing job performed by Robinson in her Atlanta workshop.
A pair of showy gold lamps received new custom lampshades and proudly sport a new coat of paint courtesy of Robinson. "In their previous condition, the average person would have not given these lamps a second look," she says. "I overlook an item's current condition and look forward to its potential."
Hepburn meets Ralph Lauren Home in a display of crisp black-and-white polka dotted bedding. The sprightly pattern adds a playful, feminine perspective to this gender-neutral design.
Organic elements help to create a welcoming atmosphere for any room of the home. Here, bamboo roman shades offer another layer of privacy and light control in this sunny bedroom.
Get the look of Dayka's vintage styled bedroom by adding furnishings that balance both masculine and feminine design. This modern wingchair fits the bill when you want to cozy up for nightime reading.
Add fiery pop of color with this clean lined four-drawer dresser. It carries the shape and mimic the legs of the nightstands without feeling too contrived.
Double up on style with a set of Bamboo Curl Mirrors from Horchow. Place these retro-inspired beauties above the dresser. Bamboo, one of Robinson's favorite motifs, is timeless, versatile, and sculptural.
I agree it's a beautiful room - Who says that Black and Brown dont go together?
I can't help but wonder what those great lamps looked like before being painted - Since I collect vintage lamps, I have the feeling I would have loved the original glazing...
