The word "copper" used to instantly conjure up images of lucky pennies and Martha Stewart's pot rack. However, now my first thought is of the Chilean miners. Since they were saved, I continue to think of copper as lucky.
Besides its value for functions like plumbing and communications wire, copper has a unique beauty that transforms as it ages. Copper has jumped from Martha's pans to kitchen hoods, sinks and counters, and from plumbing pipes to gutters, roof details and sink basins.

My dear late father built a cupola for our garage many years ago and topped it with a copper roof. He was a professional sheet metal worker and loved to make custom pieces. It has weathered to a beautiful patina over the years. He even had a little copper plate engraved with our name and his name and the date, and attached it to the side.
