The Floating Bed: Sleeping on Air
Remake your bedroom with the minimalist look of a bed that seems to float off the floor

If you'd like to give your bedroom a contemporary makeover or want to furnish a small bedroom without overpowering the space, consider the floating bed. These designs use a concealed ground support or wall installation that makes the bed itself appear to float, resulting in a modern look that takes up less space both visually and physically. Wondering if the look is for you? Take a peek at the following photos to find out.

This is the ultimate floating bed. While many floating bed designs require some type of minimal ground support to pull off the visual perception of floating, the Fluttua bed appears to be truly on air through a wall installation. More about this room

The floating bed design is ideal for minimalist rooms, as it appears visually lighter due to space beneath the bed and the lack of headboard. This allows the statement pieces of a room, like this antler chandelier, to take center stage.

This already contemporary design becomes even more sleek and modern when finished in bright red lacquer. Carrying the same color to the doorframe and room shelving unifies the room’s design.

This floating bed design manages to embrace both modern and traditional aesthetics by mixing a smooth white finish with natural wood. Set against a dramatic backdrop of dark patterned wallpaper, the floating bed becomes the room’s chic focal point.

Floating bed designs also work wonders for smaller rooms since they take up minimal visual space. A clean-lined side table offsets the bed design in similar contemporary fashion.

A monochromatic color scheme plus floating bed equals a room that is equal parts sophisticated and modern.
This oversized square design complements the modern take on this room’s square and rectangular windows, adding to the overall contemporary aesthetic.
The clean lines of many floating bed designs make for the perfect hint of masculinity in any room. The look can be offset with linens of a feminine vibe, or maintained with streamlined bedding like the linens in this example.
Many bed designs seem to "float" by means of a ground support. Disguise that ground support as much as possible by choosing a finish for the bed that closely resembles that of your flooring.

Some hidden ground supports include extra storage drawers.
Every bedroom benefits from a few extra nooks and crannies for storage.

Iyare I How durable is it though? I'd be scared to get really comfy in it for fear of it breaking :)

Heidi Banman I like the floating beds where you only see the mattress or see very little of the wood, supporting the mattress (as in the first picture and the 5th and 6th pictures)

Mona Lisset I like floating beds found in swanky hotels in the caribbean held to the ceiling by a strong rope on each corner like a big swing...now that's floating!

vealdesign @mona lisset: WORD! Most of those with the exposed unpadded platforms are horrendous shin crackers! And slipping out of the bed with the extended "oversized" platform would be unwieldly at best- And making it up? Ridiculous.
