The kitchen is open to the living room and casually coastal. Glass-front cabinets up top serve as wonderful areas for display. “The lights in the cabinets also provide great ambience at night,” Visbeen says. The layout was set up for cooking and congregating. The island incorporates a microwave drawer, storage cabinets and seating.
Classic proportions compose a pleasing front facade. A dining area on the left balances out the screened-in porch on the right, creating symmetry, with a porch in the center. The gable runs from the front of the house to the back, and additional gables give the upstairs floor plan some flexibility. Currently it has two bedrooms, but the existing space can be divided or expanded to include built-in bunks. Many of the historic homes in the area were built before air conditioning was the norm, and were designed to stay cool. Elements like porches and window and doors placed to take advantage of cross breezes were all important parts of this home’s design. The team nestled the house among existing mature trees that provide shade.
Rope was wrapped around this wooden column to accommodate the belief held by certain feline occupants of the home that a large scratching post had been placed in the middle of the room for them. However, the combination of the wood with the rope makes it equally tactile for humans to run their fingers across as they pass by.
Gregory Siff is one of my favorite artists. He did an incredible job bringing a little life to the deli by painting custom murals on the side walls. This piece is the perfect way to bring that same edginess into your own kitchen.
TALLER DE SOLDADURA
TALLER DE SOLDADURA This metal display cabinet is one of my new favorites. I love the steely gray color and think it would make a great nontraditional dining room piece.

Granite composite.Pros: Made of granite particles and polymers, this material resists scratches and chips. It does not show water spots.Cons: Lighter-colored granite composite sinks can stain, and some special maintenance is required
4. Built-in drainboard. Pros: Of course, it’s great for draining dishes, so if you do a lot of hand washing, it’s convenient. The drainboard can also allow fruits and vegetables to dry after washing. Cons: This is a wider sink that eats up countertop space.
I’m captivated by sliding barn doors; they’re a great solution for soundproofing a bathroom. This textural one was made from discarded pallets — another inexpensive DIY project!
Modern spaces call for a twist on the traditional trellis — try a sleek metal grid like the steel support shown here. Once fully covered with vines, the support itself will be almost invisible, as in the last photo.
Want a fully vine-covered look? You can still get that using trellises. Take this garden shed as inspiration — cleverly positioned supports allow the vines to cover the structure without actually growing on it, protecting it from damage.

efficient kitchenette that centers on a reproduction sink — “a treasure,” Dana found the stainless steel counter in the perfect width but had the lower shelves modified to fit a small-scale refrigerator. Ikea hardware holds up a shelf of yellow pine next to the garage’s original windows. The glass door at the main entrance draws in more light.

Traditional terra-cotta floor tiles were used on the lower floors of the house
The fireplace was stripped down to the bare essentials in what is now the main living room. The ceiling in this space had to be rebuilt; it now allows for recessed lighting, unlike most of the other rooms.
limestone terrace connects the house and the pool; it combines traditional materials with a more modern design
Neithart had the door painted turquoise, added the upper butcher block counter to create a breakfast bar, brought in new window treatments and switched out all of the knobs on the cabinetry. El poster de los waffles se parece al de los corn flakes
The armchairs on the right side were a vintage find. "They have great midcentury modern lines and did not even need to be reupholstered," Neithart says. "The original fabric is really soft and fuzzy

With California coastal colors in mind, Neithart found these lacquered turquoise vintage side tables early on
The playful blue pendants add some necessary color; the client found these vintage pieces on her own, and Gutow had them rewired for the kitchen. The butcher block is another antique piece the client found.

functionality. "The layout works well — ample counter and storage space, and a very usable large island," "Quality appliances make a huge difference, too. Once you've had a good Sub-Zero, there’s no going back."
The breakfast nook gets plenty of light from two new windows — one of the few structural changes made to the kitchen. Storage space under the banquette holds winter boots and gear, so they don't crowd the adjacent mudroom. The custom zinc-topped table, vintage bar stools and coffee-sack pillows complement the kitchen's warmer elements
Pullout shelves next to the refrigerator store after-school snacks; the sliding function makes it easy for the kids to find what they need without getting in the way of dinner prep

I always think materials like concrete, glass and steel need wood finishes to bring life to the compositions
Here full-color stone and thermal bluestone coping combine in the paving surfaces. I love the stone columns with log beams.
Camouflage an eyesore with attractive fencing, clear out weeds and lay out a neat path to the backyard.
This patchwork of purple prickly pears (Opuntia violaceae var. santa-rita, zones 7 to 11) and teddy bear cacti (Opuntia spp, various zones) is best seen and not touched, though you can create similar effects by using combinations of plants with similar colors
Two saguaro cacti (Carnegia gigantea, zones 9 to 10) stand as sentinels and frame the view of the shorter, bushy cactus like big, prickly gateposts,
In the case of the planting shown here, the scenery actually extends into the garden itself with barrel cacti (Echinocactus grusonii, zones 9 to 11) and other Arizona natives, creating a seamless transition between the property and the mountains beyond. The round cacti catch the golden light of the setting sun, borrowing a picturesque view and stealing the scene.
