When you pulled out your flatware at Thanksgiving, did it look a little dowdy? I know mine did. Whenever we have folks over for a meal, I spend time sorting through my pieces: the worn ones go to the back of the drawer, and the fresher pieces go out on the table. Let's face it, we use this stuff every day, and it's showing. So let's start our holiday entertaining (and the new year) on the right foot with new flatware!

— Donna from A Perfect Gray

I think the Crate & Barrel bamboo would be my pick for a fresh update to my table settings. Love all your picks!

I collect French Ivory-handled cutlery. It's hard to find in the US, and expensive, but common as muck in the UK and cheap. When i lived in Wales, I bought tons of this stuff! However, they only made knives and forks, but a friend in London had a set of spoons made for me from the handles of forks and some vintage silver spoons. It's one of the best gifts I've ever been given!

check the 'hand' of each piece in a place setting. flatwear should feel as good as the food you will enjoy with it-important, but not so heavy you are exhausted at the end of dinner.

Love the bone and natural brass...but I fear hand washing which is a no go for me :) I have 12 place settings of sterling that I bought years ago at Scott's....all different patterns! I use it all the time!

I do like the Ricci "Florence," and coincidentally, the description, "beautiful, lightly hammered" pretty much sums up my New Year's Eve plans.

Love the Gump's! so pretty for Fall. I've had the same flatware since I was eighteen, it was a gift from my mom and I still love it to this day...Oneida's 'Michelangelo', I"ve never gotten bored with it...but that doesn't mean I wouldn't like to have other options! xo J~

I own the Grand Hotel II flatware, and love it. It has a great heft to it, and the beading is a great detail that I do not foresee ever going out of style.

Between two grandmothers, my mother and mother-in-law I have ended up with five sets of silver-plate flatware. I love them all, but five?! Wth so many people opting for stainless that you can throw in the dishwasher, antique stores are flooded with sets of flatwear. It's a far less expensive route than buying new and there are so many many choices out there. I'll be giving flatwear to my daughter, DIL, and whomever else, for years to come.

And yes, "beautiful and lightly hammered - Jannie" will keep me smiling today! ha-ha
