The Magic of Magenta, the Fun of Fuchsia

I work as a blogger for businesses although I do a variety of different types of writing. I particularly enjoy writing about all aspects of design and creativity. I think that your home should reflect your personality and that it should change as you change. More about me at www.kathrynvercillo.com and http://diaryofasmartchick.com.

Did you know that fuchsia and magenta are the same color? I always thought that they were subtly different from one another but in doing some research I discovered that they are actually synonyms for one another. The terms both refer to a purple color that has hints of red or pink in it.

Because of the fact that this is a bright, bold, pinkish-purple color, it tends to be very feminine. It's not something you're likely to see a lot of in a house filled with guys. However, done correctly, it doesn't have to be extra-feminine if that's not your style.

Personally, I am a big fan of fuchsia furniture. I think it brings fun, optimistic energy to the space. For the same reason, I like fuchsia home accessories. Entire walls or rooms of this color are a bit too much for me in most cases but I definitely think they make a great statement for people who prefer them.

Do you have any magenta in your home?
This is what I am most likely to think of when it comes to a room with fuchsia furniture. I like the matching chairs against the white and light blue of the rest of the room. The zebra pillows add an extra burst of fun.
This is another example of how magenta furniture goes so well in a white room. It also goes nicely with the wood. As you can see, there are many different shapes and styles of magenta chairs so you aren't limited to a certain style.
You have to be a bit careful with fuchsia furniture in a room that has many different colors and patterns. The shape and wooden design of the ottoman here gives some strength to the pretty piece. The color is then picked up throughout the room.
Here we have another room where the magenta color pops up in multiple places. It's a lovely modern girls' room.
This collection shows off something that I think is important when it comes to magenta which is that you can combine it with items in red, pink and purple. Many people are afraid this will clash but it can actually look great.
This is a shade of fuchsia that is infused with more pink. Clearly, this has a very feminine feel to it. As I said before, the bold wall may be a bit much for me in my home but I can definitely appreciate it in a cool space like this.
I would be more inclined to include fuchsia in a wall in this manner. The floral wallpaper is pretty. I like that it's done on a small wall rather than an expansive space.
Another option, of course, is to use actual flowers to get that great magenta color into your home. This is certainly something to think about for next spring.
In the meantime, you can add cut flowers to the home and bring the fun of fuchsia inside. Instead of the colorful magenta tablecloth, you could use a white or black tablecloth to really make the flowers pop.
Notably, when you combine fuchsia with yellow and orange you create a feeling that is more tropical.

Rebekah Zaveloff I really don't consider myself girly, but I LOVE splashes of bright pink in a room! Thanks for this post. My favorite pink is definitely the shade of purple cone flowers...

pinkisnice I LOVE pink of every shade (well, except mauve) and painted my living room fuchsia/magenta. Since this pic, I've swapped the rug for a solid dark brown one and added a mod white coffee table. I don't know if it officially works, but it makes me happy.
