Fresh out of journalism school, I fell into decorating media and immediately discovered a new passion. An Atlanta native, I spent several years as an editor for Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles magazine before making the leap to national publications such as Better Homes and Gardens and Southern Accents. I live in Birmingham, Alabama, with my husband and son, who’ve gotten used to coming home and finding the furniture rearranged. When I'm not dragging case goods across the floor, I enjoy good food and wine, college football, music of all kinds, and traveling.

I have recently found a new appreciation of navy/indigo blue. I am trying to find places in my home to incorporate it as I generally have a home with warmer, earth tone hues. I think I will try it in my son's room by replacing the bedding and broadloom to include this color. Duxbay, I'm with you. Indigo, cerulean, turquoise - I'd paint each room in the house blue if I could. I'm sort of scratching my head as to how I ended up choosing a palette that has lots of green, yellow and white, but only a small bit of indigo in the guest bedroom.

ok - I was vacilating between doing an accent wall in a metallic neutral against the other off white walls (2 of which have a tobacco/khaki broad stripe) and that wonderful rich blue because I've been craving some saturated color in my living space. This blog pushed me over the edge - and I went and got some paint and a faux pearl glaze. The rest of the story later! Thanks - you all are so inspirational!

I wanted to de-emphasize the old, icky, light blue tile in this 1950-era bathroom, and painted it bright yellow the first go around - wrong! I then bought a shower curtain with this color as a band on the bottom and was inspired. It's exactly right and now I love using this rich blue bathroom!

I too adore blue but I've found it usually needs lots of warm accent colours to work in a cool climate. Blue and white is great in summer but hard to live with in the middle of winter. For this reason I think pictures 2 and 8 work the best. My personal favourite is teal blue which as a paint colour I find extremely easy to live with and seems to go well with just about everything.
