DIY: Make a Candy-Cane Striped Holiday Wreath

A cheery wreath is a perfect way to start decorating your home for the holidays. It's the first thing guests see when they pop over for a cup of hot cocoa, and it sets the tone for the rest of the decorations in your house. Instead of purchasing the same old evergreen wreath along with your Christmas tree, mix things up a bit and try this easy DIY fabric wreath by Heather from Whipper Berry.
This is a great holiday craft because it's very straightforward — no special skills or tools are involved, and the supply list is short and sweet. It can be easily customized with different colors and fabrics, and unlike that green wreath from last year, this will last for many holiday seasons to come.

All of the supplies for this plush-looking wreath can be found at your local craft and fabric store. You'll need:
• 1 foam wreath
• 1/2 yard of muslin
• 3/4 yard of red fabric (Heather used canvas fabric, since it's very durable and is sturdy enough to stand up straight on the foam)
• 3/4 yard of white fabric
• 250 straight pins
• Black ribbon

First, tear the muslin fabric into long strips, each about 4 inches wide. Wrap the strips continuously around the foam wreath, and attach it securely to the form with straight pins.

Cut your red and white fabric into 4"x4" squares. Don't worry about getting the measurements exactly right — getting it close should work just fine. After cutting all of your squares, start with a red square and fold it in half, and then fold it in half again.

Take a straight pin, and pin it to the wreath form as shown here. Fill in a row of red tufts, pinning in the same manner and working the fabric close together. Follow each row of red with two rows of white to create a wreath just like Heather's, or get creative and mix in green or another holiday hue!
Tip from Heather: Don't be stingy on the fabric! The more full this wreath is, the better it'll look.

Fill in the entire wreath by alternating rows, and then attach a black ribbon bow to the top of the wreath using a couple pins. That's it — you're done! Simple, unique, and adorable.
