This year my tree went from a classy display of strand after strand of white lights to a menagerie of colored strands. After finding a free box of colored twinkle lights last summer, I knew I wanted to go a little more bold and crazy with my tree this year, and it all starts with the twinkle lights. Bring on the red and pink and purple and lime!

| Another inspiration for the color theme of my tree was an old sweater that had the best colors and the worst fit. A few cuts of the scissors, a little hot glue and ribbon, and I had a collection of pretty sweater-wrapped ornaments. They inspired the purchase of more hot pink and lime green ornaments to make my tree live boldly. |

Perhaps you want to go a different route and ditch the traditional 3-D tree altogether. Simply string a tree outline on your wall, and add your advent packages to little lines strung between the illusory branches.

(I was able to score several boughs for free at the cutting station at Lowe's this year. Just ask first!) A little vase of water and some sweet treats create the perfect nest for your Christmas Bough Tree.

Ashely, I love your triad of trippy trees!
This year, we went with a black and white Christmas tree and it came out pretty wild.
My daughter came home from college and helped decorate it. We love it. Hope you do too.
