1. Use multiples.

2. Use junk.
Do you have junk sitting in your garage? Can any of those pieces hold a few cups of soil? Bravo: You have a planter. Simply drill a few holes in the bottom, then add soil and plants. These repurposed troughs are a perfect example — from the mouths of pigs to the roots of herbs.

| 3. Use paint. Don't be afraid to paint pots. Exterior paint will last several seasons on a typical terra-cotta pot and will give your space an injection of style for pennies. This dipped pot lends the perfect look to a modern space. |

| 4. Use terra-cotta. Terra-cotta is beautiful but sometimes gets a bad rap as boring and unstylish. I think terra-cotta can make a grand statement, but it's best when used in groupings. Try collecting various sizes and shades of terra-cotta pots at local yard sales and group them on a ladderlike plant stand. The effect is charming. |

The driftwood planters are just beautiful Ross and CJ -- those hand sculptures are AWESOME! Who would have thought a surgical glove could make that?? I wouldn't think they would be strong enough, but am totally going to try this idea now. Thanks for the inspiration!!
