Living Room
The boxlike structure of this apartment presented some challenges in the interior design. Although the stunning view was the highlight of the space, the floor plan was difficult to organize for livability. McGukin and his team extended the existing kitchen by adding cabinetry and changing out the cabinets with a darker lacquered paneling. The extended cabinetry helps define the kitchen and the dining room areas, but the great room still feels open. Tailored hardwood flooring makes the home feel less like a condo and more like a custom home.
4. Shutter bug. Shutters are a spectacular way to control light and are considered an upgrade from traditional draperies. Install shutters for a classic and timeless statement, then paint them in the color of your choice.
Don't be afraid of the dark. Try painting all of your base moldings and window casings a dark color. Home dwellers that are able to take a leap of faith by diverting from the traditional colors of white and off-white get handsomely rewarded
Adding a credenza in the living room creates a surface for lighting and a place for hidden storage. In this space it works double duty for the living room and dining area, but you could place one against the wall to store books, games or even off-season decoration.
River Stone Cocktail Table, Silver - $949.00 » But I still wanted a little more vibrancy in the room, which has dark walls and a lot of dark finishes. This table has a more silver finish. Apart from the fact that it might look like a meteorite has crashed into my living room, this one pretty much has everything I've been looking
Arteriors Malcolm Coffee Table - $886.00 » A similar option is this drum-shaped table in a dark silver iron with brass details. It's the perfect size and shape and is a real contender.
The Noguchi Table is a classic, and it emulates the same irregular shape as the prior example. I love this piece, but glass is a no-go. Noguchi Table - $1,399.00 »
Want even more from your mirrors? Fill a whole wall with mirrors and add mirrored furniture to give the illusion of another room just beyond view. Placing candles and beautiful flowers where they will be reflected in the mirror doubles their beauty.
1. Grownup taste can appeal to kids. "I wanted Bumble's interiors to reflect what we are: a sanctuary where adults can relax and a place where kids feel welcome," says Heffernan. Interior designer Christian Brennan helped Heffernan refine her gray, yellow, white, and black color palette, which reflects — you guessed it — a bumblebee theme.
This trendy abode pulls in a lot of current design obsessions. Cool antler sculpture, chevrons, black walls? Check, check and check. Simple white sofas, a sleek coffee table and a classic gourd lamp keep things feeling polished and mean that the look can be easily changed with a few accessories swaps when the mood strikes.
This couch demonstrates a more subtle leap of faith, one that can work successfully in any home. Add a spot of color by draping a bright throw over the middle of your couch, then add pillows over it as it were part of the couch itself. At first glance, it looks as if the couch has different-color cushions down the center, providing visual dimension and texture.
Love colour
Horses symbolize power and give off passionate energy. So try adding a large, bold sketch of a horse to a room you want to look fierce in. Less color in the artwork keeps it from taking over the room.
Love a black-and-white and neutral palette? The cowhide look on this upholstered chair brings an element of rawness to the chic space without a hair looking out of place.
If you have an open layout, achieve a sense of separation with metal dividers. They will help to define areas while offering a dramatic edge.
