Wild Chairy

Professionally and personally, Andrea is an absolute gem. She has completed many upholstery projects for our family--including reviving my grandmother's dining chairs, completing a totally chic makeover of estate sale chairs, building a cozy AND elegant sectional into our basement (w custom mattresses as the base cushions), and re-doing our couch and chaise in a luxurious velvet. Oh! And she also turned footstools into artwork. Re the stools: I was so sure of Andrea's taste and style that I asked her to surprise me, and I absolutely love what she did. All of these furniture pieces are beautiful, comfortable and unique, and the process of working with Andrea was (no pun intended) seamless. She is ultra-professional, totally inspired in her work, and one of the best artisans I have ever encountered. As you can tell from the list of projects above, I sought upholstery opportunities in order to get Andrea's touch throughout our house. I'll do the same in the home we're now renovating.

Andrea Mihalik does dreamy, imaginative upholstery. She knows every aspect of her craft, is sensitive to budgets, gives great advice on fabrics, and has wonderful creative ideas. We were wowed by Daily Candy's write up of her company, Wild Chairy, last year and on the strength of it, we contacted Andrea and asked her to reupholster our 40-year old sofa, a wing chair from the house I grew up in, a tub chair that had belonged to my husband's cousin, and a Louis XVI-style ottoman that belonged to my late, first mother-in-law. Somehow, those were the pieces that we decided to keep when we moved into a much smaller place. Every thing new was given away. Andrea provided such great inspiration. The sofa now has a striped multi-colored frame, cut velvet back cushions in a gothic brocade-style pattern; the wing chair is charcoal--tweed on the inside and an inky cut velvet on the sides and back; the tub chair is cherry red, and the ottoman base is spotted silver and white surmounted by an embroidered ikat pattern in wild colors. It all looks completely fabulous and works beautifully with our multi-colored kilim from the former Yugoslavia, bought in Bloomingdale's in 1973. We can't wait to ask Andrea to do more work for us. I am only sorry that my photos don't do justice to her work.
