Conflicting and coordinating styles. This might be a stretch for some. One of the reasons this dining nook and kitchen work so well together is the interesting conflict created by throwing the rustic dining table into the mix. The simple metal disc canopy of the bubble chandelier mirrors the stainless

could we extend the island to incorporate the eating area?
The cantilevered island but not sure how we would incorporate that.

This small penthouse apartment was given a wonderful nook space by creating a half moon glass bar height table perched above the cooktop island, supported with standoffs and a custom 'cigarette' base of wenge veneer. Where can I purchase an island like that with the raised glass table top? It's beautiful
I'm so glad you like it, Paula! It is not an island nook element that can be purchased, however, it is something that must be designed and custom fabricated to suit the needs of the area, spatially and aesthetically in regard to the type of design the homeowner desires

need to do more research on the radiant heat flooring - though the warm feet idea is a strong argument for 'em! Would the circulating hot water system work in a retrofit as well as new build? Does one still need a traditional furnace system as backup? Thanks again for the feedback! :D *runs off to find
Radiant heat is available for both wood and stone or tile. There are several types but the circulating hot water system works the best in a cold climate. And yes, great for allergies and dust! No more cold feet! Yay!
