island home is set on a dramatic site overlooking the Straits of Juan de Fuca. The owners wanted a substantial addition to a 150-square foot, one-room cabin. The new one-story home is carefully connected to the waterfront views, nestled low into the rocky site, and surrounded by large fir and pine trees
The home’s new main room was built adjacent to an ancient wind shaped pine, which becomes the focal point of the connection between indoors and outdoors. This main room features fir ceilings and a twenty-foot long bay window that enhances the engagement of the inside space to the view. A cupola above

going to Home Depot and buying a sheet of maple high quality grade plywood (about $45 per 4ft by 8 ft sheet) and wood trim (maybe 3/4" by 2" trim). HD will cut the plywood into shelf sizes you need for free or a few dollars and you then finish nail the trim onto the edge of three sides of the plywood to
trim. I learned the secret from a carpenter I hired from Craigslist. He made all my custom shelves for a 9'x12' closet and it cost me in labor and material less than one third what a commercial closet company would have charged.
cute home office, enough of what is needed, must keep neat! Lamp incorporated under the shelves, red file box
Idea for home office in sunroom. I like the floating shelves and one that makes a desk.

into your home, without getting all their little hoof prints on your carpet. This home reminds me of a winter resort lodge with its massive wood beams. Rustic or mountain-lodge-style homes just need to have some deer, in my opinion.

level home (30ft wide) in DC with a huge yard. We want to add on about 1700sf so I'm just trying to get an idea of what options we have. Thanks for getting back to me so fast.
Older homes often have a rotten cedar shake or shingle roof. If you're thinking about replacing the roof, remember that the structure may need to be reinforced to accommodate the weight of the new material, or may need to have ventilation added.
in your home, don't be. From what I have learned about the house-swapping community, you would be surprised at how well homes in "normal" towns do. Some folks are traveling on business or may have relatives in your area, so don't discount your house before you even begin. You might be surprised.
