single-story house with a low-pitched roof that we love but that could use a sunroom, close to Newark DE (not too far from Millbrook!). One problem is that because of the layout, the only natural place for a sunroom is at right angles to the central roofline, in one corner of the house. It is very unclear
deck rails or a usable deck area above the sunroom? From a construction standpoint, could a sunroom (flat-roofed) like this be built abutting two house walls?
unclear to us how we can make this work-- redoing the roof of the main houses out of question, and valleys seem ripe for leaks. So your photo inspired me with the thought that maybe a flat roof would be possible. Any thoughts?
What is the ballpark cost for a project like this? Would love to do the same at my house. But I live in S.Florida.

I have a small Spanish bungalow in Long Beach, similar to yours. I love the landscape design! Did you hire a local landscaping company to build the pergola, and put in the patio? I would love to know who did it
i love the compact size of the house, please what is the lot size and floor space of the house
MC, So glad you like this compact house. It's actually only 989 square feet. I'm not sure what the lot size is. They completely renovated this wonderful patio.

(which may be what you used for the windows in your house?). We have to decide on redwood, Western red cedar, cedar, etc. for our wood slats. Yours are perfect. May I ask what you used? We may do shed dormers like you used, too. Gorgeous design!
would love to see how you joined the pool to the house. Happy 2014 to you, too!
@marsia and @dreamhouseforsomeday thank you both so much. Yes, the photos in John Hill's Ideabook are all from my home. Since the photos were taken (2012), the house has many more layers (rugs, furniture, art etc) and

what if down the side yard there was a small gravel garden down the side of house?
Structure next to house creates cozy seating area

So cute, I almost picture something like this for my 1st house, all it needs is a fireplace and a pool lol
almost intensifies the narrow space. Once again the design is clean and simple.
Spot for a top chef. There are so many good things to say about this side garden design, but the most important one is, "Please invite me over for a meal!" From the modern arbor's slender profile to the mixed flooring of
create useful outdoor rooms. In houses blessed with a wider side alleyway, there is more scope to create a garden with uses more than just decorative. But they can still have the same problems that side yards have, with diminished light levels and dry soils. The clever design of this alleyway draws us to

How do you decorate a Victorian house to look old but modern at the same time
We just bought a house that was built in 1865 and is 4360 sq. ft . We want it to look old but modern at the same time
spacing, as seen here, makes sense from a safety, comfort and practical standpoint, especially on a deck designed for sitting. Many manufacturers offer ADA-compliant products specifically designed for this purpose.

What is the tile inside pool…amazing design. Thank you.
layout, pool, modern design, low maintenance
vertical palings along the entire length of this long rear garden wall would only emphasise the narrow proportions of the space. Melbourne-based DDB Design thought so, too, so they broke it up with a section of square lattice panels with a row of pleached trees in front. This softened the hard materials
