This is moss. It can handle only occasionally light foot traffic. The toughest ground cover I know of is Mazus. You may want to consult a good local garden center to see what will do well under your conditions in your area. Beware of English ivy as it is toxic to dogs if ingested.
Use of moss in shady areas.

Moss and small cascade is like a forest stream.
Moss most frequently grows in damp or humid areas. Diverse species can grow in sun or shade, in soil, on rocks and on tree trunks. In summer it can be a plush carpet that anchors our gardens; in winter its luxuriant evergreen color provides that much-needed respite from seasonal doldrums.

topped with moss on the table. The fuzzy green moss warms up the room.Tip: If your room lacks light (for example, a bathroom with no windows), you can still add in some moss accents. How to Grow Moss On a recent trip to Pennsylvania, I was fortunate enough to visit the moss garden of David Benner. Benner has been growing moss in his garden for more 50 years. One of his sons runs Moss Acres, a specialty mail-order moss nursery. Benner's appreciation
Irish moss (Sagina subulata, zones 4 to 8) and Scotch moss (Sagina subulata 'Aurea'), along with Club moss (Selaginella kraussiana, zones 6 to 10), are not mosses at all. Selaginella is actually more closely related to ferns than to true moss.

Questions3
Will Irish moss grow in South Louisiana?
Irish Moss' To be successful, plant in a fairly cool / shady environment and make sure the soil is loose & well draining. In addition, make sure your irrigation is zoned specifically for the area's needs. Hope this helps, Drew Sivgals AMS Landscape Design Studios, Inc.
Irish Moss should be considered carefully. In S. Cal, pick a semi shady area, ensure good drainage, plant as tight as desired (it's not a fairly fast spreader), and mix with yournchoice of plants along the edges..
Irish Moss surrounds the limestone pads, small and medium Geraniums provide some alteration in leaf color, with the 'Heartleaf Geranium' being the purple flowering species (grows 3'-6') and there are also Lavender Dentata at the front right. In back right is a larger Camellia species and spreading vine

Scotch Moss for a small area, rockeries or a Japanese garden.
What's this bright green moss-like covering?
Scotch moss- Just do not use it as a lawn, it is difficult to care and not aesthetic. It requires constant care: cutting hummocks, thinning, dislikes waterlogging, feces, fertilizing. It's better to use this Scotch Moss for a small area, rockeries or a Japanese garden. Beautiful
