Looks like Carrara marble to me
The honed granite (the gray counter) is completely carefree. A sloppy cook, three kids, and a counter surfing dog haven't changed it a bit. The marble counter is etched but not stained.

Can anyone identify the marble used for the backsplash?
Could be a White Carrara, but it's probably a Calcatta or a Statuario Marble. Here are some slabs that looks similar: http://www.gramaco.com/viewstone.php?StoneID=1685&TabID=0 http://www.gramaco.com/viewstone.php?StoneID=1
