you ever used the look alike slate that is porcelain? They say by the nature of slate, it could chip off, whereas the porcelain would not. Is it very expensive to do the wood and slate floor, as compared to just wood or just tile?

paint was used on the dark cabinets and in what color?
want to use black cabinets with ivory NOT white and I think this is the look I want...
we used 1x8 ship lap pine ( you could use pine tongue and groove with a square edge, I have used both 1x8 and 1x10's depending on the look you're after) , painted with an off white paint then applied a stain wax called Classic Wax.. the beams are just rough sawn pine, we
that was used may not be the best black for you based on lighting, the other colors in the room etc. I always start with a color idea and then refine once I'm in that particular space. Hope this hopes, sorry I'm not able to remember the exact color for you..

materials used for install. Sealing all sides helps expand and contract, but there's a reason that some of the world's largest boardwalks use Ipe, because it works!
usually use redwood or Ipe' wood. Redwood is softer but will hold a stain longer. Ipe' is more scratch resistant but it is hard to get a sealer to penetrate, so people often have to stain every year.
