Our kitchen cabinets will be maple was thinking of going with a darker wood flooring would it look good with the cabinets
is 3/4" tongue and groove rift white oak, with a very dark stain. Light maple and very dark floors-- it's a personal preference, could look very striking. You'll need to tune the floor color to work with the yellow of the maple though. Also-- I warned my client in advance-- dark floors show EVERYTHING

I am a novice too but maybe looking up vinegar, steel wool mixture as a stain to achieve the barn wood look.
The wood is vertical grain doug fir. They are straight cut and blind nailed over black backing. We used biscuits to keep them straight and well spaced.
Karen, you might try a grey deck stain on the wood. It won't look just like this, but you can experiment with colors and see if you can get something you like. You can also select some nice stainless
