The "hardest of the softwoods" is tough and durable; good screw-holding characteristics; resinous - not to the same extent as cedar, etc - but certainly Doug fir is a strong choice for exterior applications; takes and holds stain well; beautiful and quite uniform in vertical grain cuts.”
