is the open-plan downstairs living space. The dining, kitchen and living areas all flow into one another. The only partition is a central column where painted portraits of the two children are displayed. The expansive feeling of the ground floor is aided by large windows on two sides, mirrored rear walls
exposed ceiling joists. All have been painted white to add to the sense of height. Quirky vintage furniture, including reupholstered dining chairs from Craigslist and a teak dining table rescued from the trash, adds a playful touch.

Does this ceiling treatment (no insulation) cause heating problems on the main level? Does sound travel up?
I have the same type of basement ceiling, but with insulation. I have been told that removing the insulation would increase my heating bill and that sound would travel. Would like to have access
The ceiling looks fabulous! It also looks like it is difficult. How did you do it? Any tips? Thank you.
to the ceiling, but don't want to put up an ugly looking metal frame with panels. Any suggestions
The ceilings were sprayed by a professional painter. The noise transmission will be greater between the floors when you removed the plaster from the ceiling. Thanks for inquiring.
Hi. I am renovating a 1940 colonial in the north east. Unfortunately, that era has lower ceilings than I like. On

paint the open ceiling? What kind of paint and is it sprayed on?
I see in your response to another question that all paint is Benjamin Moore. Have you been able to find the color name? Also, I assume the ceiling was sprayed, how many coats did it take?
joist ceiling from top floor noises?

Currently, we get almost no noise upstairs -- presumably due largely to the current drop ceiling. If we remove the ceiling tile, I'm concerned about how much noise will penetrate

An all-white space gets an unexpected dose of color, making this room far from appearing too sterile. Tip: A ceiling that is architecturally interesting will get noticed more
