to define the patio. The slats cut down on the harsh summer sun, cooling both the patio and the living room inside. The fireplace mantel extends outdoors, wrapping to conceal a charcoal grill where the couple often grill an impromptu dinner.

Bole Residence
Like the idea of sky lights running length of roofline to provide light.
cool way to light up a dark hallway
idea for brass windows from salvage
I like the idea of it being at the peak, also listed: Consider orientation
Etched glass. Another means of tempering the amount of light and heat that enter a space is etched or sandblasted glass. The etching process allows the light striking the surface of the glass to be bent and scattered, which results in a more diffuse and even light.

Best idea for a small area.
dramatic. I love the idea of making a big style statement in a small space. In the dining area try playing with scale, choosing a high-back bench flanked by a pair of teensy chairs as shown here. Lighting note: The best tip I have for defining a small dining space is to install pendant lights above the table
smoke and mirrors to create more look. Well, replace "smoke" with "globe pendant lights" and you'll have a well-lit breakfast area. This space has only one window, so the designer made the most of it. A mirror reflects the light, and two globe pendants add extra wattage on those dark, early-wake-up-call days
