Making the Best of a Forgotten Space
Wrapping around the back corner of the home, past the pool house, a stepping stone path meanders through a perennial garden. Behind the fence panels on the left are the AC units. Plants along the sides of the path only
The path leads from the pool house down to a stone pump house. The curved stone wall to the left is a retaining wall, which provides a grade change; the wood one to the right covers unsightly air conditioners. The place where the path navigates between the two is a "pinch point" that is 7 feet wide,

In a smaller area, you may need to cut back on the amenities — the pool becomes a fountain, the expansive deck is changed to a small path and a beam-topped patio. Even so, the landscape still reflects the same rich mix of plants that defines a tropical landscape.
