I want to do this in our shower, and my husband is concerned that the bumpy bottom will hurt his feet! Anyone have any thoughts on how comfortable this type of flooring is for someone with flat feet?

The pebble floor tiles are now available from many vendors - you can easily Google to find.
The peach tone floor tile is a natural sandstone, 16x16". Sandstone is crazy porous, but the client was in love with it. Lots of high quality sealer on that floor! Beautiful, but high maintenance.

When choosing pebble tile for the floor of a shower, what are the effects of large vs small, dark vs light in terms of design aesthetics? I am choosing a pebble tile and have one that is larger than another so trying to visualize what the final look will be wrt the

The subfloor under the tile needs to be at least 1 1/4" to keep it from flexing. When ever I do a pebble floor I always use an epoxy grout such as Laticrete SpectraLock. If you can get in from a ceiling below you could try and sneak in some more floor joists
