Rationalization for a very small space, with counter jutting out slightly to make a space for two persons to interact informally with the Chef or to eat informally.
a large skylight in the window-free space, natural light pours in and is reflected off the glossy surfaces. It can be tricky to squeeze in some personality in a tiny space but the open shelving with displayed objects softens the utilitarian look.

I recommend at least 18 to 24 inches of clearance between the bottom of a fixture and the height of a taller person. While less may do the job, visually it will cause most people to feel the need to duck when walking under the fixture!
