Love the vanities and medicine cabinet surround. - Love your bathroom! I will have a design much like this, but 33", 26", 33" in a 110 sq ft bath. My medicine cabinets are on an outside wall as it appears these are. My contractor said he could recess them 2 to 2 1/2 inches, but we will need to find a way to finish the 2 to 2 1/2 inches out of the wall. Was this your situation? Do you have a suggestion of how I could finish the outside of the cabinet with wood trim or something? »
Diana Bier Interiors, LLC Yes, the medicine cabinets are on an outside wall. The finish trim is the wood paneling, which as you can see is covering the entire wall up to the vaulted ceiling. Hope that helps.
What color are the walls? It looks deeper than the Swiss Coffee on the cabinets. Is the ceiling white? - I am using this idea (inlayed wood) in my master bathroom that has a double sink vainty vaulted ceiling. Thank you for sharing your creative ideas. »
Diana Bier Interiors, LLC The walls are Benjamin Moore's White Dove, and they are actually a bit lighter than the cabinets. The ceiling is Grey Cloud by Ben Moore. I would again caution against selecting colors based on what they look like on a computer monitor. Try the colors in your own room before you make a final decision.
Diana Bier Interiors, LLC The mirrors were custom made and fitted to the doors of the medicine cabinets by a local glazier, Monarch Glass of Oceanside, NY.
Diana Bier Interiors, LLC Unfortunately, because these vanities were custom made by Kountry Kraft cabinets, and are solid wood inside and out, and a nonstandard height and depth, they were priced at approximately $6,000 all in.
Who manufactured vanities? Are they stock? - Are the vanities custom made? I am looking for a cabinet with drawers measuring 42 or 44 inches to fit freestanding in a 60 inch space. The ones I've seen on the net don't have a choice of tops, all I want is white with black or white or carrara marble top to complement beadboard walls & hex flooring. These are lovely. Thank you in advance. »
Diana Bier Interiors, LLC The bell jar chandelier is from Hudson Valley Lighting. Mine is polished nickel with a cut crystal glass bell jar, but you can get it in several metal finishes and 3 styles of glass: cut crystal, stars, and plain. I think you can also get colored glass. I have an antique brass/star glass one in my foyer as well. Love their products!
Love the backsplash! How did you wrap it on the side walls of the vanity? - We have a small vanity (36") and want to do something similar to what you've done here (just the one sink, no middle). The vanity will be up against the wall to the right but not to the left, to accommodate the shower door opening. Need some design help! Do you think it would look better to subway tile up the wall to a chair rail and have that be the backsplash or do you think a marble vanity/backsplash looks best? Thank you! »
Diana Bier Interiors, LLC The subway tile in the shower is from Waterworks, just a plain 3" x 6" tile.
The backsplash tile for the vanity area is 1" x 2" calacatta marble. It is actually taken from the floor sheets (basketweave) since I had a lot left over and didn't know what I wanted for the backsplash either! I asked the tile setter if he could set the 1" x 2"s in a running bond pattern and he obliged. I had to pay extra for the labor since he had to set each tile individually. I didn't want to repeat the basketweave pattern on the backsplash because I thought it looked like an afterthought, too matchy-matchy. You probably could find sheets in the running bond pattern if you looked around. The marble tiles were also from Waterworks.
I think it looks great--close enough to repeat the marble but not a perfect copy of the floor.
How can I build storage in my knee space? - I would like to convert my vanity knee space into cabinets or a pullout hamper. Can you tell me how to build something like that? »
Diana Bier Interiors, LLC Actually, I'm not a carpenter or a builder, so I can't tell you exactly how to build one. However, I'd look at the space and sketch something to to scale and then show it to a carpenter. He'd probably have some ideas and then you could work together to add drawer/shelves/hamper as you wish. Or you could measure the space and try to find a cabinet to fit.
My storage space was designed by me to fit the space between the walls and built by the company that made the vanities (Kountry Kraft in Pennsylvania).
Height of backsplash - Diana this bathroom is gorgeous and I went looking for a photo such as this one to aid me in finalizing my own. I love the backsplash - how high is it? I also read how you took the 1x2s from the basketweave - that's a great idea. I have a similar scenario - would you be willing to correspond with me off line and answer a few questions about my bathroom? I just have to do the backsplash and mirror. Thanks! »
Can you please tell me if these sinks and corresponding tubs and toilets in this room are white or biscuit? - I am building a house and going back and forth if biscuit or white would be best.. alos i was planning on using brushed nickel faucets by Brizo- RSVP do u think that would look good? »
Diana Bier Interiors, LLC All of the fixtures--sinks, toilet, and subway tile in the shower--are white. The fittings (faucets and other metal hardware) are polished nickel. I was going for a very traditional look, so I chose polished nickel. Brushed nickel is a more contemporary look, so depending on whether you want a traditional or contemporary look, the finish on the fittings would help achieve your look.
I like the counter and the faucet. - Can you please tell me if the counter is granite, and the name. Also color and maker of the faucet.
Thank you.

Diana Bier Interiors, LLC Hi Marcy! The countertops are Calacatta marble, a creamy white with subtle gray and taupe veining. As for the faucets, they are from Sigma and are polished nickel.
Diana Bier Interiors, LLC Thanks for the comment! The window is an insert that fits on the inside of a standard Anderson curved-top window. I had a specialty window shop, Excalibur Designs, in Valley Stream, New York, make the leaded glass window to my specifications. It has 3 different types of obscure clear glass, and cost approximately $600. I'm sure you can find a shop that does this type of work if you aren't located in the metro NY area.
Diana Bier Interiors, LLC The cabinets are custom made by Kountry Kraft in Pennsylvania. The color is called "Swiss Coffee" but I would caution you on selecting colors through a website. You need to see the color in person in the room to get the best feel for it. Websites, magazines, etc. don't show the true color which can vary tremendously from what you see online or in a photograph. The way I do it is to collect all my samples, for example in this bathroom I put together samples of the floor tiles, the cabinets, the countertops, faucets, and the paint colors to see how it would look together. Only then did I make the final decision.
What type/style window covering is used? What type of finish did you use for the door knobs? - I am leaning towards Polished Nickel on my bathroom cabinets/faucets and antique nickel for the kitchen cabinets. What do you recommend for the doors/hinges throughout including the front door and the kitchen faucet? »
noahluke Thank you. That does help and wow I am jealous this is your home. I think the shape of the ceiling and and the beautiful window above just completes this look. Love it!
Diana Bier Interiors, LLC I'm sure you can find it at any large tile/marble retailer. Mine actually was taken from the basketweave sheets that are on the floor. I didn't know exactly what I wanted on the backsplash, and had extra basketweave. Not wanting to match it exactly, I just had the tile setter pick out the 1 x 2s and set them individually in the running bond pattern. I got the tile from Waterworks, and I'm sure they have sheets of 1 x 2s in that pattern, but it's not so exotic that you couldn't find them elsewhere!
Can you tell me who makes these sconces? - I have a similar design for my master bath remodel but will be limited on space for sconces due to mirror size. The bases on these appear to be narrower than most I've seen. Thanks. »
Diana Bier Interiors, LLC Hi akcorcoran, regarding the sconces and the tag--I'm not sure where that tag comes from, but it's not accurate. The sconces are not Alexa Hampton, they are from Visual Comfort, Studio Single-Light Classic Wall Sconces, number SL2813 in polished nickel.
Diana Bier Interiors, LLC Faucets are from Sigma, a California company. They have lots of different styles and you can view them on their website, sigmafaucet.com. These are Cote d'Or from the Sigma Reserve Collection, with porcelain lever handles. They also are available with cross handles. They are a very high quality product and cost about $575 each, and were purchased at a plumbing supply company.
Diana Bier Interiors, LLC I would say that it is personal preference, unless there is an issue with the sink placement. Your sink will be placed in the area that has the door, right? Unless it is centered in the vanity and the topmost drawer is a dummy. Make sure you know exactly where the sink will go, and that you have enough room on either side of the sink to perform all the grooming/washing/etc. tasks at the vanity.
bathdilemna The sink will be centered in the vanity and the top drawer will be false., So we should be okay. i am thinking it would be more practical to have the drawers next to the drop down vanity for convenience. My drop down will be open with just a knee drawer so I can sit to do my make up etc Thanks for your advice!
