catvaljean I have almost zero standard kitchen cabinetry in my kitchen. Just antique pieces (such as a Hoosier cabinet for larger storage) mixed with open shelving. I love it! You just have to be a little more mindful about not allowing things to clutter since you can't hide it, but that is not such a bad thing.
Adding artwork to the kitchen can be tricky. This homeowner pulled it off by using a simple, symmetrical butterfly print that can be moved to other parts of the home whenever the mood strikes.
Layers of canisters, jars, dishware, trivets and other tools infuse this collected kitchen with a sense of cheer and comfort. At first glance you can tell it's a working kitchen, and the visual feast holds the promise of delicious meals and conviviality. How to keep open shelves under control
shelves easy to build, would look great along north wall in kitchen in place of cabinets. Shelves take up less space than cabinets and would open up the room. Could be used for books
If I ever build a custom home or rehab an older one, I want to have enclosed kitchen cupboards but open shelves too to display items and/or other kitchen ware that I use on a regular basis. Love the storage jars, the wood countertop and the dark cobalt blue backsplash in this pic too.
the shelfs are a great idea, my kitchen is verry small & the cabinets are so high that i only can reach the bottum shelf leaves me w/a lots of dead space.
