McElwain loved the idea of using milk crates as storage — something she'd seen in a workshop. She found the crates during a visit to the Ventura Flea Market, and her boyfriend reinforced them with reclaimed wood and installed them on the wall using cleats. Use: Wall-mounted shelvesResult: A unique composition that will display your collectibles in an organized way. Hint: Start with a straight line across the top of your arrangement and line the crates along it. Keeping about the same amount of space between crates lends a uniform look.See more vintage crate shelves
3. Milk crates. Remember those big plastic milk crates that you used for stashing books, CDs and snacks? Here's the stylish version: weathered wooden crates mounted on the wall and turned into floating shelves for decorative accessories. There ... that's better.

I love this idea of making milk crates for shelves. Probably the dining area, or the bedroom. Want to keep the living room a little more modern, a little more sophisticated. Finding them will probably be the tricksy part.
love the way these old apple crates make a statement as well as a great way to display & store items. bet i could make them from free palletts and whitewash them . . .
