Many hoods can be modified in this way, the manufacture may have extensions that can be special ordered, or if not, a local metal fabricator can make one quite reasonably. Make sure to check with the manufacturer to see if the fan in your model will be strong enough for your specific height requirements.

Range hoods do not come with angled chimneys (this one is cut on-site to fit), and most wall-mount hood covers do not reach past 8.5 - 9 feet.

However, as John Lum pointed out, there are extensions available for a lot of range hood models.
