Stone on the Fireplace - Hello, I just love this house! Great Job! Would you mind sharing the name and manf. of the stone you used on the fireplace?
Thank you
Joanie »
Huestis Tucker Architects, LLC Thanks so much for your nice comment. The stone is native Connecticut granite. I don't know the specific name. If you are looking for something similar, my advice would be to go to a local stone yard to see what they have. This kind of product varies from region to region.

Love the ceiling. What is the width of the strips? Is it 1x6 w/a v grove? - I looked at bead board this morning, 1x6 with a middle bead or we could flip the material and have a wider strip with a v. I can't decide. And your ceiling helps. Very lovely »
Huestis Tucker Architects, LLC Thanks for your comment. This ceiling was custom milled midfield boards with a ship lap profile. Similar to a v-groove board...back of the beaded board. I don't remember the exact width of these boards, but 6" seems right.

Jennifer

Huestis Tucker Architects, LLC Thanks for your comment. Sorry your color didn't work out. This was actually a custom color, and although it doesn't look like it has enough blue in it, Ben Moore Horizon comes pretty close to what we used here.
Best of Luck,
Jennifer
IS there a rule of thumb for the size of chandler to the size of the room? - We have a similar family room but I don't know what size chandelier to buy. »
Huestis Tucker Architects, LLC Thanks for your interest. I don't think there is necessarily a rule of thumb. I think the size depends on the look you're after. This one was 36" or 42" diameter.

Huestis Tucker Architects, LLC Hi pdanger,
Well traditionally it would be sort of colonial...however I think it's great to break the rules a little...you could have a modern feel, a beachy feel, a transitional feel, or even a very formal look. Anything goes as long as it's done well.
All the best,
Jennifer

Huestis Tucker Architects, LLC Hi Nicola, Thanks so much for your comments! when we were doing our research for this project we found a lot of great examples of ways to "hide" the TV above the mantel, behind cabinetry or a mirror etc....I think the stonework in this particular room made it a little trickier to do something like that. Other options for you might be to put it behind the sofa opposite the window, or mount on a swivel bracket on the wall adjacent to your pocket doors. The best location depends on how many people will regularly be using this room to watch TV. If it's two, you have more flexibility. If it's a family of four...you might need to have it above the fireplace or on one of the walls opposite. Good Luck with your project, it looks like a great sitting room.
All the best,
Jennifer

Advantage Contracting This looks like Liberty Hill granite mosaic. It is available from O/G, Stone Depot, and Better Stones in CT. This picture shows the square and rectangle version of this stone. The fireplace photo is a mosaic cut.
Mary Beasley Wow I love this! This is very similar to a family room I'm trying to figure out, which currently has all wood paneling and wood ceiling & beams. Stone fireplace is very similar too! Wish I knew what shades were used here, as I would copy it exactly! It really opens up the room!
Huestis Tucker Architects, LLC Hi Mary,
Thanks so much for your nice comments! We would be very happy to do a color consultation for you.
All the best,
Jennifer

Is it my imagination or is the ceiling painted a light blue? - Love the look of the room and I'm wondering, is the ceiling painted a color other than white? Looks like blue. I can see myself in this room. Great job. »
